Gaming How large is the May update going to be?

Nintendo eShop
The Nintendo eShop will be enabled through a system update which has been announced for late May, 2011. We'll have more information for you after this update becomes available.

This makes me so sad.

Seriously guys? The features they're adding are great selling points. Internet browser, downloadable titles, whatever. You think Ninty would deliberately hold that back when sales are suffering as is? Yeah right.
Did someone say they would?

Do you have a source for that? I really want this update to be in early May, like May 1st - 7th.

30-15 = 15
"LATE May" = >15th of May.

Should be pretty big.
The browser and some other features are half-there already though.

The excite bike download is for Japs only so far, and will be inside the eShop, not downloaded automatically with the update.
It's to encourage people to use the eShop, so likely similar giveaways in the US and EU too.

30-15 = 15
"LATE May" = >15th of May.
That only divides the month into early and late.
I think a more natural division would be
Early: 1-10
Mid: 11-20
Late: 21-30

So you're saying it'll be "after the 15th" ?
Hm... Where have I read that before?

Most updates typically happen in the middle of the month. Most electronics from my experience anyway. From phones to iPods, down to gaming consoles.

Knowing Nintendo, it will probably after the 15th. They sure do like to procrastinate, then complain that no one's buying their stuff.

They said "late May" so, I'd expect it to come around the 20th as soon. Not to mention that's for Japan. Worldwide release will be around the same but probably later.

They said late may globally. I know this isn't a reply to you, but the poster below your post but meh.

Nintendo don't complain about that, third parties do.

Not completely right, Nintendo is kind of disappointed on their 3DS sales and adressed officially that it doesn't sell as they imagined.

-edit: whoops, skim-read badly
-on topic: I think it'll be about 400 mb, with all that new tech - it is possible

400 thousand units under their forecast.
Couldn't have helped that Japan 'sploded and folk was all donaty.

It will be large, especially because it's my b'day lol. I wonder when the update is though...like date??

i think it will take a while to download, like the last one, some features may be there but not finished & require some more stuff to be downloaded like, web browser, & dsiware transfer, but there seems to be alot of more features comeing too. cant wait for eshop bringing that megaman legends 3 demo

It's not only about their prediction though. 3DS sales have been pretty bad since its 2nd week, after all us "OMG NEW CONSOLE MUST HAVE!!!" people got theirs.

Exactly, however I still have faith.
While there were tons of shovelware games on the NDS it still had some really good ones, which the 3DS will probably begin having after its remake wave.

They need some games.
The casual folk ain't no buying no 3DS because they think it's another re-model.
They done shot their own balls off with the DSL, DSi and DSi XL in the eyes of the casual.

It'll build up steam like a normal handheld (GBA for example) after 6 or 7 months.
