They're implementing a ton of features and possibly improvements on the stuff already in it. They'd probably add some new AR games and it includes Excite Bike, I think.

I wonder how long the update will be and how long it'd take me to download >__>

Unless the files are in the 3DS firmware already and the update just adds to it and unlocks it.

May update can't be big enough for me, I'm rarely even touching my 3DS at the moment it really needs that boost right now and I think I'm not the only one who is feeling like this.

I really hope they are going to have a decent amount of software to download and buy which will keep people occupied till new 3DS titles are going to be released.

I also don't think that it is already stored on the system, probably just little chunks of it.
Might take as long as when the Wii shop came out back then maybe then again I just want it to be released, I really hope its not coming sometime at the end of May but rather early on.

As for the AR games I think they already mentioned that they are going to expand on that system whether they are going to do something with it in this update is to be seen.

I think the browser is just waiting to be unlocked.

I don't think it'll be bad unless Nintendo is still poor at handling traffic

You'll have to put your 3DS in its cradle for about an hour.

I'll even have it in there for 5 hours just give me the update already

Wikipedia says it is coming late May, they better don't make us wait another month.

Nobody knows how large it will be.

Also, the files aren't already in the firmware. They didn't do that for the DSi.

I'm pretty sure you're going to have to get Excite Bike yourself from the eShop. It doesn't come with the update.

I doubt it will have new AR games, though.

Seriously guys? The features they're adding are great selling points. Internet browser, downloadable titles, whatever. You think Ninty would deliberately hold that back when sales are suffering as is? Yeah right.

personally i am hopping that they will have many many game demos
till the next great games come out.

I hope the May update contains;

-Megaman Legends 3 Prototype Version
-Free Excitebike (3D)
-The first batch of Gameboy titles
-3D enhanced GB/NES games like Link's Awakening and Mega Man 2 (that would be sooooooo insane)
-Playable demos (Ocarina Of Time 3D demo anyone?)

Just make it real Nintendo!

Any idea when this update will actually occur? All I've heard is May, no actual date. Do I just need to keep trying to update my system until it actually does something?

As long as they have original Gameboy Tetris for download I don't care how big the update is, or how long it takes to download.

Same point of view on my side. As long as Original Gameboy Tetris is for download, i don't care how long it takes and how big it is

(In the mean time i can play Original Tetris on my ancient GB while the 3DS is updating

Exactly, I'm not even sure where mine is...

Don't care as long as there are 3DS game demos. Ocarina of Time 3D demo would be sick.

Late May. Don't expect anything until after the 15th
Do you have a source for that? I really want this update to be in early May, like May 1st - 7th.

I got this from the official Nintendo site:
QUOTE
Nintendo eShop
The Nintendo eShop will be enabled through a system update which has been announced for late May, 2011. We'll have more information for you after this update becomes available.
