There are countless videogames available on the market and an equally huge number of free games available for free (legally). Yet one of the biggest problems that a lot of gamers face is "I have nothing to play today".

After thinking about it for a while, maybe we care more about videogames if they're currently being played by a lot of people, no matter if it's multi or single player. What do you think?

I think people today are just too spoiled because of how much choice there is to what you can play... If you have 1000+ games you can play, just deciding on what to play takes forever and that's the issue, you can't decide what to play, not that you don't have anything to play. Mood also matters though, so you may be indecisive and not in the mood to play your "go-to" games at the moment, meaning you stay there doing nothing but feel grumpy about it...

But do you feel more inclined to play certain games if you know that a lot of people are playing them right now?

I couldn't care any less really, what does other people playing a certain game have to do with me playing it? Those things are completely irrelevant. I prefer solo playing on top, so very rarely I'll want other people to play with (for example, only on Pokemon or for the really endgame stuff of Monster Hunter), so besides that, I couldn't care any less if there are people playing it.

For multiplayer games, it's obviously a requirement. Just having a few filled servers kills the mood pretty fast for me. Especially when the skill level isn't up to par with mine.

For singleplayer games, it really doesn't matter. Of course it helps if people are talking about it (review scores, opinions, ...), but aside knowing the game, I don't think it matters? I even have somewhat of the opposite. Take "Cook, Serve, Delicious" for example: it's not the most obscure game on the planet, but it's a simple indie game that was about 4 years old at the time of this story. At said time, it still had weekly timing challenges, which was about the only multiplayer aspect of it (an online scoring technique). But despite being pretty good at the game, I never managed to ranked higher than +300'th worldwide.
