PS1/2 How good/bad is usb loading on PS2

I know its USB 1.1 on the ps2 but how bad is this for loading and playing games. I will be sorting out an internal drive eventually but for the time being was planning to load via usb.

Also if I use a free mcboot memory card do I need a seperate card for game saves

Loading through usb slows some games down. Also no you can use the same memory card for game saves.

It mainly slows down during FMV sequences and loading times.

For most games (that I've tried) the gameplay is nearly perfect.
