Hey guys! First post here :)
I am considering buying a 3ds , because I saw that it would be possible to play games on it for free via sky3ds+! But how does it actually work these days, do I just need a 3ds a sky3ds+ and a computer?

From a friend in need :) <3

no, you don't need Sky3DS or anything. if you get a system with 10.7.0-32 or lower, you can downgrade it for free and play everything without a flash cart.

To add to the above answer, you'll get more features if you don't use a Sky3DS(+) than if you do.
The Sky3DS(+) only allows pure piracy, not homebrew, and not online without private headers that you'll have to buy somehow, unlike a CFW that also allows pure piracy, but homebrew and diverse hacks too, and doesn't need anything special to play "backups" online.

if it's between 9.3 and 10.7, you can downgrade to 9.2. it's free and easy. you just need a system and an SD card (preferably 16gb or larger), plus PC for the setup.

So downgrade it via my pc and then transfer (lets say Monster Hunter G) the ROMS to the SD card, plug it in and then run the games? That simple? :o

you wouldn't need to copy most games to the SD card, just use something like freeShop.

you can't play ".3ds" files out of the box, but you can convert them to CIA and install them. you can also dump your game cards directly to CIA. CIA/digital games don't need private headers for online play, unlike flash carts.

Wow! This sounds so simple, I might come back to you with more questions if you don't mind! I will try to get my hands on a 10.7 or less ! ;)

I would say Sky3DS+ is the no risk way to go. Super easy to use! No way to brick your 3DS like all the other people who post in this subforum (there's a lot of people jacking up their shit all the time...).
CFW is cool because you have more options, homebrew, and themes. If you can get a low FW 3DS it's definitely the cheaper way to go.

So if I can't find a version 10.7 or lower I will go for the sky3ds, but where to buy the sky3ds card? I live in Denmark, where is the safest place to shop ? :)

if that happens it might be cheaper to instead get a hardmod or downgrade from someone who can do those in europe. Sky3DS isn't so cheap. custom firmware also gives you more features than Sky3DS can.

So if I were to get someone to do it for me, where would I find such a person?

Yep what was said above for hardmods^.
Yes as long as you are not on the COMPLETE latest version you can downgrade! And if you aren't it's cheaper to send to a hardmod installer than get a sky3ds! Plus it's easier and has more features the without sky3ds! You can also download games straight off the 3ds! All you need is your 3ds, an SD card (you get a 4 gb one with it) and a computer!

EDIT: Also this is THE guide to follow: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

I found a 3ds with the following number; 7.2.0-17E, is that a correct firmware, and if so, how can I also upgrade to a 9.2?
