Hardware How does a camera take and store pictures?

with a CCD
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charge-coupled_device

it is a sensor that basically reads light and converts to an electrical signal
then the camera processor grabs that signal and does several processes to transcode into a file that is stored in a memory card and\or show that image in a screen

a video camera, or capturing a movie. works kinda the same way as a camera, except it takes plenty of pictures every second and stores them on the fly as a video format. (and adds audio captured by a mic. the camera also needs to sync the audio with the pictures behind the scenes while its recording)

I know how the digital display works, but how does a digital camera take pictures?
