How do you get tomatoes which actually taste nice?

Fresh tomatoes from the supermarket have no flavour. What is the best alternative? Homegrown tomatoes, a farmer’s market, canned tomatoes, dried tomatoes, tomato powder?

Home grown are much much more flavorful

So much more flavorful in fact, that if you are used to store bought ones you will almost be overwhelmed

I had one from my girlfriend's garden yesterday and I had to take a break after 2 bites because the flavor was so strong

Agreed, I tend to scoop out the middle and throw it out.

Raw tomatoes make me gag, the slimy texture, the seeds, *blech* I'll pass and have ketchup

I'm not refuting that, I just can't get past the texture of tomatoes. It makes me gag. The seeds and sliminess is something I refuse to get past, I gag.

Never had a problem with locally grown tomatoes here. They're delicious. I usually eat them sliced, with some salt and pepper. Cherry tomatoes are the best, but a little more expensive.

You would need homegrown, heirloom or local tomatoes, since the genes that make supermarket(large retail) tomatoes so big, also negativly impacts taste.

In Austria from our farmers from "rural areas" we have one of the Best "Paradeiser".
They smell so delicious and for raw eating and of course cooking (after a long time because until the whole water is overcooked from the tomato).
