Hacking How do you burn WII Games?

OK, I just unscrambled a .wii with Rawdump 2.0 and got an .iso now. Can I just burn it with Nero (I have version 5.5.10.42) or do I have to use a special burning program? Also are there special settings when burning?


Nero should work fine. Just burn it as a disk image. It might be smart to burn it slower than your max speed, but that's only speculation on my part.

What about my version of Nero? It's really old as you can see. Does that matter?

No, that shouldn't matter. BTW, I would recommend burning the media at its rated speed. So, if you have 8x media, burn at 8x. Contrary to popular belief, burning slower can actually result in burns of lesser quality!

I too recommend ImgBurn. It is the best ISO burning program I've used, and I've used a few.

Burning your media at different speeds may or may not improve the quality of the burn. As gr33dy mentioned burning slower certainly does not always mean a better quality burn and indeed can be worse. That doesn't mean however you will get the best burn at the medias rated speed.
For example I have two burners that I use and both handle identical media differently. My BENQ 1640 is great with burning most single layer media at or even above its rated speed. It is rubbish at dual layer though. My new Pioneer 111L is great with my dual layer 2.4X Verbatims, burning them with better quality at 4X than their rated 2.4X. The single layer media especially the TDK 16X -R I have burns a lot better at 8X in the Pioneer.

So different burner, different media, different speeds can all make a difference.
I recommend trying your media with the same ISO at different speeds and see what works best. Media is so cheap now it's worth the time and duplicate copies to get it sorted.
If you post what type of burner you have then I (or others) may be able to give you an idea on good media and burn speeds for it.

I also have a Benq 1640! Great burner... Hmm, I have a brand new pack of Verbatim 2.4x DL +R's sitting right here. I have yet to open them and try them out. Have you had a bad experience with all Verbatim DL? Most of what I have heard is that it is great overall but can sometimes be hit or miss. For SL, I feed it nothing but the best: Taiyo Yuden.

TY are the greatest, pretty hard to find and quite pricey in Australia though.
Most quality scans of Verbatim DL burned with the 1640 look good. But my drive is very well used and even single layer burns don't look as nice as they used to.
Great burner though and hopefully yours should do those DLs fine.

Omg I just finished dling Red Steel from paradox and when I am extracting it it says the file isnt complete

Im using winzip and I try to extract and an error message says the file isnt complete...

OK, I think the problem may be that you've downloaded an incomplete file...
Sorry I just had to say it.

Is it a multi part .RAR archive? meaning are there many files named something like, red.steel.pdx.rar, red.steel.pdx.r01, red.steel.pdx.002, ETC?
If so then perhaps just one of the files is incomplete or missing. If there is an .sfv file with those other files then you can check the completeness of the individual files. If one isn't complete you may be able to get just that one rather than getting all of them again.

I have a TEAC DV-W50D (writing speeds: 1x-4x) with TDK DVD-R 1x-16x. I think I'll give ImgBurn a try. Any special settings there? What writing speed would you recommend?

On another note, I want to buy a new DL DVD-Burner. Can you recommend a good one?

I can recommend both the drives I own.
The Pioneer 111D is plentiful and many consider it to be the top dog at the moment.
The newer BENQ models are supposed to be very good, but then I've had some good experience with LG and the newer Liteon drives.

I am not familiar with your burner but I believe that due to its age it won't do as good a job with newer media. Newer burners are calibrated for individual media types, different brand discs are burned differently. Your burner wouldn't properly recognize newer media and will just default to a generic write strategy.

My BENQ 1640 does a great job with TDK 16X -R, so I can advise that one specifically.

If you downloaded it from Usenet, download the .par2 files, install Quickpar, and repair it. If you got it from a torrent, it's a bad release and you're SOL.

If it came from a torrent and is a multipart archive with an .sfv file (as most iso releases are even through torrent trackers) then all he needs to do is run a file verifier (Quickpar is what I use for that) and find which files are missing or corrupted. Then find a new torrent (or other) source for the release and download just the missing or damaged parts.

Ya I guess, best case scenario. Just need to avoid the headaches by using private trackers or Usenet though, especially when you're dealing with 4gb+ downloads... Preferably Usenet.

had the same prob with NFSC - one file was 2mb smaller than the others, but the problem was that the PAR2 check said it was ok! So just downloaded another nfsc upload (also from Wierd ofcourse) and that was the right size so it unpacked correctly.

So you can't alway rely on the PARs, this one probably was MADE with a corrupt file

That may be true but most of the time the scene group that does the release includes a .sfv file. You can open that .sfv file and it will check the release is the same as the group intended. You won't be able to recover it with the .par files if they are messed up but at least it will tell you where the problem file/files are.

Not having a dig at anyone, I don't care what you do, just so I know the bounds and not to overstep them.

I wondered about this as well. But generally it can be summed up as ask for the rom/iso = no, no. But IF you have the rom/iso already then we can help... kinda.
