Don't turn it off while downgrading.
Format 3DS beforehand (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO LOWER SOFT-BRICK CHANCES! You do not want to be stuck on 10.4!!!)
And, if you have the ability to, I would do a hardmod just to be safe.

I recommend you just do it. Just be paranoid about everything you do and triple check everything. SafeSysupdater is awesome.
