ROM Hack How do i make a translation patch

Okay, another user pointed me to this site: http://www.romhacking.net/start/#trans
For one, I have zero expierience in ROM hacking, but I'm a hard worker and fast learner. Think about it this way: if we suceed, that means that 4 amaterus with very little expierience did something pretty difficult. Anyways, we're going to need to obtain a ROM of the file. I bought the actual game, but I don't know how to extract the ROM from the card, which I'm usre requires special hardware or programs.
I would suggest we read Shyvnal's post on the DokiDoki etc. thread, and read about hex editing, tables, etc. before we move on. I want to start this thing with some information backing, instead of just guessing.

i have the dumped version of the rom. if you guys need it too, google is your friend. unless if you have e-mail addresses...that you're willing to give me...make a fake one, i don't care. if you need it, i can tell you where to get it, but overall, google is your bestest friend evar.

btw, 12philips12...where's teh topic?

oh yeah, still, there is a lot of work ahead of us, and i insist, if you guys know anyone experienced that's willing to help, ask. or dig up some blackmail. if it's compressed, we're goners, but if we have someone who's good with assembly, we can get pass that.

and yes, i'm petty enough to necro this over a decade later, on a site you haven't used in four years, to tell you you're a jerk

when someone asks a question, and you tell them "just google it huh huh huh" you're not only incredibly unhelpful and annoying, but you're polluting the actual google results you're telling people to look at. good job, buddy
