Narin does more than the database and that has nothing to do with him being staff.
He isn't a mod, he's a technician.
He works on the site. None of the moderators can do what Narin can do.

In all seriousness, most of the mods here never asked to become a mod, they were offered the job. More often than not, if you ask to be a mod, you won't get it. Its a position you have to earn. Everything is looked at, how helpful you have been on the forums, your posting history, if you ever had any warnings or previous infractions against you, etc.

The best thing you can do is just follow the rules and be nice and helpful to people. If you stand out, you may end up being offered a mod position here.
