this has been bugging me for ages how do you become a mod. my mate told me you had to have 10,00 posts but half the mods dont have that many (well i hope not) so any mods want to tell us mortals how u got your pearly throne?

I'm pretty sure that if the current staff feels you to be a valuable asset to the team they would make you a moderator. Not just anyone is a moderator, these are careful decisions made by staff.

Be Awesome.
Frequent GBATemp user.
Post count.
Length of membership.
( Being a member for more than a year usually.)

Thats about what it comes down too.

Not always true; look at Toni Plutonij, he hasn't been around for that long but he's shown to be an active and just member of the community by spamming the boards with pictures of himself

I kid Toni, I kid!

over 10000 posts? do any mods even have that many? anywayz the answer is simple.

u take 5000 eggs and put em in a bowl, and u mix the fuck out of em.

or a current staff member asks u, either way

the same way you become a representative, senator, secretary of state etc. You display competence and get chosen when there is need.

Just ask "Make me MOD NAO!" and magically you wont be a mod. Dont they announce when they are getting new mods and people try out for the positions?

The quality of your posts here counts for a lot, I have been here for a little while got over 2000 posts and have input a lot over the years (probably best know for the undumped list).
Contributing in a meaningful way doesn't have to mean being a mod here, if you get asked that's great.
If I were asked tomorrow I would probably have to turn it down as I currently don't have the time to be of much use here.
I really want to play Gears of War 2 when it turns up (hopefully tomorrow) but I have a presentation on Monday and my first priority is degree.

Responsibility to the board and loyalty to the board. Also remember to type so that people believe in the cult of personality that you have.

To become a mod you have to have never asked the question.
Just kidding!

You have to be active with helpful and friendly posts and been here for enough time to be trusted with the responsibilities and so on.
Then an admin will probably ask you if you would like to join the staff, and it continues from there.

Anyway, why do you particularly want to be a mod?
