When you buy a game disc, you don’t play off the disc… it installs to internal then uses the disc as a verification method.

As @Hayato213 mentioned the best way is to hack up to 9.00 via webkit/USB and install games via usb.

on the ps4? I thought only the ps5 installed them to the hdd. I know that the meta is installed at least.

Put a disc in and try play it immediately.

You have to wait until a usable portion is installed usually. Like single player campaign, then it installs the rest after, during which time you can start a game.

Every PS4 game installed to the HDD, the disc is used for installing and give permission to run the game once installed.

I actually don't remember that with the ps4.
