So I know of existence of Homebrew Pokebank, I havent used it but it seems like its just an app on the 3DS that reads the data from the games and everything is done locally on the 3DS.

Is it possible though to have PokeBank server running on a linux machine or even DDWRT on your network? Doing DNS forwarding to it so that 3DS thinks its connecting to the real deal?

I like the idea of the bank being a centralized location that I can host either for LAN or WAN or both for me and my friends to use.

Is this something that has been attempted?

I think you need a soap server or something like that. And I think the 3ds verifies things like that with certs. idk I could be wrong though.

If thats the case perhaps the "homebrew app" concept can be extended. instead of using the "real" app use a homebrew one, but instead of storing stuff locally on the 3ds (although can certainly still be an option) it can connect to the "homebrew server" and deal with stuff that way. Would certainly make it a lot easier to transfer pokemon between systems/generations.

just take one of the pokebank apps out there and replace the sd access portions with connecting to your server. Easy enough.

What ones are there and which is considered to be the best? I thought there was only one PHbank
they both are the same imo.oh ida pro is your friend. I can't link the official content of pokebank... but i'm sure you can download it from eshop and decrypt it with D9 then just reverse it to see how it connects to their servers.

Usually when such a big title leaks the Temp will be the first to report about it (going off of historical reports here, Pokemon SV being the latest one I can recall seeing pop up here)

I got my Dad a firestick for Xmas and showed him those 3rd party sites on Kodi, he loves it, all he watches anymore. He said he has got 3 letters from AT&T already about pirating, but he says f them, let them shut my internet off (He wants out of his AT&T contract anyways)
