First off, I'd like extend a hello to everyone who reads this. Thanks in advance for enduring my questions.

I've had my DS Lite for awhile, and I'm interested in homebrewing it. However, I have a few concerns.
1. I don't want to open up the DS, or do anything that might damage it. It took me awhile to acquire it.
2. I'd like to buy a Slot-1 card with great-perfect homebrew and ROM compatibility.
3. I'd like something cheap, or at least something I won't need to replace or re-purchase later on.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again

You don't have to open your DS. All you need is a Slot1 card, or a Slot2 card with a Passme device, and you're all set to run homebrew.

No such thing yet. Slot1 cards have excellent ROM compatibility, but homebrew compatibility is still rather iffy. It will improve in time, but for now, Slot2 cards have much better homebrew compatibility. But new versions of homebrew are coming out every day, and every version supports yet another Slot1 card, so all you have to do is wait. And play ROMs in the meantime

The R4 or M3 Simply are a good bet, and the Supercard DS is looking good too. They all have regular updates, and getting one of them will keep you ahead of the game a long time, by the looks of things. Then again, who knows what tomorrow will bring

But don't worry, GBATEMP will be here every step of the way, so stick around and enjoy the ride

The m3 simply/R4 is easy to use for nds backups, no software needed, just drag and drop. There is homebrew that's available, it's just not all homebrew supports all the slot 1 cards right now.
You can read up on homebrew for the m3 simply/R4 here -

That should be what you need. You can buy a kingston 1gb microsd card at newegg for less than $20 after the cheapest shipping.

you can get the m3 simply -

http://www.gamersection.ca/product_i...ducts _id=374
http://www.kicktrading.ca/m3-ds-simp...71954a5dfbc008

these are all good sites with a good rep (newegg is USA only)

heres the micro sd card -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E1682 0134215
This comes out to $65 before shipping, and is going to be the cheapest thing you can find, and it's also the best thing out right now.

I'd heard that the R4/M3 Simply are the same thing. Is there any truth to that matter?
Is there a more expanded guide on the M3? That one is nice, but it doesn't cover the apps I'm looking for.
Thanks for all of the replies!

They're exactly the same, but the R4 is cheaper and has faster updates.
Go with the R4!

It's $2 cheaper. Big deal.

EDIT: With the new DLDI library that came out recently, Slot 1 cards have better homebrew support than they used to.
