Wow, too bad. I was able to get the whole dump of the RAM but I pretty much did nothing before so I only got the default sounds of the system. Maybe if we could dump the ram in game with a button... I know I'm asking to much

It could be possible, when you press HOME button during the game, it gets paused completely, so if it was possible to somehow inject the RAM Dumper in there, then it could be done. Theoretically.

Hmmm, looks like you can load up GW's firmware, then swap the launcher.dat on the SD with the dumper and then run it. This could be used to dump the decrypted Gateway code, couldn't it?

We need this, and then we can find values by taking out the SD card and comparing values of a previous dump with the new one, then keep repeating until you get what you're looking for.

Then, you can import your RAM changes by putting the values onto a text file on the SD card, and re-running the launcher (Or better yet, pushing a button).

Basically, cheat codes. :P

This is really cool, but I'm not getting the ramification of this. Is this being used to help find the system's keys? Map out how the system works? An explanation would be nice :)

Someone wanted it so i quickly made it to help out

no, it's just a bunch of people who don't know what they're doing thinking that being able to make a (really slow) dump of the main ram will somehow lead to making cheats and other stuff without knowing how anything actually works.

Yes

No. At least not by me.

More than possible. Go be negative elsewhere, this is a creative thread. ;)

Well, firstly, the RAM dump is very slow for now, mostly because it's more like a proof of concept that it can be done programatically. And right now there is a tool that can extract music from it, and I won't be surprised of graphics could be too.

Secondly, the bit about dumping RAM to find cheats is kinda silly, but the fact it can be read means that a memory viewer could be done, making search for values much easier (akin to trainers on PC).

Smealum on his twitter and blog shown that RAM can be modified already, by hacking existing channels to link to different apps AND cheating in games.

of course ram can be modified. it's not even hard to do. you're not going to get there like this, though.

its always good to look down and laugh at children learning to walk lol....always makes me feel better about myself :D....why help it spoils the fun

I will quote myself:
"the fact it can be read means that a memory viewer could be done, making search for values much easier"
In other words, once a way to inject some code into the in-game HOME menu, AND make it run in it's own thread like all the apps there, it could be possible to write a memory monitor, with all tools required to find a given value, save found places in memory, search them again with new value after unpausing the game, etc. etc, same as it works in CheatEngine for PC.
