Ok, so I'm quite new to hex editing, but I read quite a few guides online, so I should have a basic understanding of how it generally works.
My goal is to change the personality of a villager (to be exact: I want Punchy to be a smug villager).

I have boot9strap on my old 3DS XL, and I have Checkpoint and JKSM to make save states (although I only use Checkpoint).
I'm using a digital version of Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo, but I also have a game cartridge updated to the Welcome Amiibo version.

I often use the online save editor for animal crossing to edit my garden_plus.dat and everything always works just fine, but since there is no possibility to change the villagers like that, I looked for a way to do so and found out about hex editing. However, I couldn't find which file exactly you have to use in the hex editor, I have seen screenshots where it said garden.dat at the top of the program, but all the values I found online for changing things don't seem to be in my garden_plus.dat.

So, am I using the wrong file, did the values change with the welcome amiibo update (and if yes, is there a way to find out the correct values), or am I simply doing something terribly wrong?

Help would be highly appreciated!

Or, I also heard that if you use flash memory, it can act as more "RAM" at least windows tell me when I stick a flash drive into it.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It can act as a swap drive but that isn't more RAM, it's slooow.
