I have an r4i gold, but can't find any updates for it from www.r4ids.com (printed on sticker). Cant seem to get pokemon Black working on the current firmware. Any idea how to find an update for my card? Can i flash the firmware for a different card? Current firmware is v1.30.

so put the latest 2.9 kernel from there site onto your card and try again
also try using a unpatched/clean rom

Okay I updated it with kernel and firmware from r4ids.can and it works great. Thanks so much for the help guys.
