My New Nintendo 3DS XL is at firmware 2.1 I have a SystemNAND backup, but I heard you need gateway, which I don't have. If I cant get this solved, I might need a new system.,,

you don't need gateway just follow the guide and use decrypt9 to restore the backup

Any idea what ver the sysNAND backup is? You could always just restore that with Decrypt9/Hourglass9 or a harmod.

That's not possible w/o downgrading, more info about it would be nice.

The OP is most likely trying to follow 3ds!Guide which downgrades the console in order to dump the otp.bin. Most likely why it's on. 2.1 and yes technically it's not possible and it can be weird, plus by putting the n3ds in sleep mode here can result in an unrecoverable brick.
