Every transaction now has a "tip" option no matter how ridiculous. Online stores have started adding them. People report seeing tip prompts on self-checkout registers. It's insane.

Not exactly a tip, but I remember one Italian restaurant chain in the UK (and it may well be in other parts of Europe I haven't visited) adds an optional 10% service fee to their bill by default. You could tell the waitress you refuse to pay this service fee but most people are too embarrassed to do so.

This is only a thing in the US as far as I know to be fair. In the UK I've only ever seen tipping as an option in the service industry, and it's never really expected. Heck there are times when I wish there were an option for tipping, like when delivery guys carry some heavy stuff up the stairs to my door lol

You could always just hand them some cash? :P

Tips were invented to guilt people into giving them to prevent the company that person works for from having to pay them what they're worth.

But now companies have figured out "what does it hurt to ask for free money?" Soon everything will be a tip you'll be expected to tip your mail carrier.
