Hacking Help me find a sega game!

I used to play a brilliant game on megadrive. You used to get little animals which gave your sword different powers like the ability to freeze things and you could throw your sword. You used to collect apples I remember. Can't for the life of me remember what the game was called. Any ideas?

Can you describe a little bit more? Was the main character a human or animal? What was the setting like? Medival? Fantasy World? Were there also guns besides swords?
