Ok for about the last 2 weeks iv been on a quest to get a "home movie " of mine to work on my dvd player.

After following multiple tutorials over the internet an hours of trying to figure it out my self iv come up with no results.

Now what i'm asking you of really is a big job ( or at least from my point of view it is ).

I need a quick step by step of how to first add subtitles to a video, then put that onto a dvd ( having it work in the player ).

the files iv got are an .Avi and a .Srt subtitles file.

Im not sure if you guys can help me but for some reason you always come through

Thanks to who ever helps.

I use a prog called ConvertXtoDvd. You can manually add subtitles to each video on the DVD. That's how I make TV Shows DVDs.

Thankfully you do not appear to want complex menus which is nice (simple button on still image stuff is not a problem).

You have a few options, my prefered method is the more complex one of encoding an MPEG2 stream and then sending it through one of the myriad authoring apps available.
HCEnc and QuEnc are two fine freeware encoders and I would have a hard time picking the better one:
both are available here and support avisynth input:
http://www.bitburners.com/Software/Downloa..._Encoder_v0.19/
For authoring as I said there are many apps, almost every one the following list I have used/do use:
http://www.free-codecs.com/Software/DVD_Authoring.htm
They vary in complexity from 3 clicks and it is done to several hours just to study the docs.

DVD subtitles are a little bit harder, unlike subriptext (srt) and most other subtitles they are pictures rather than words. There are none the less a few solutions to the problem,
http://www.dvdsubber.com/faq.asp is a good place to start and dvd author and its corresponding GUI have subtitle support:
http://download.videohelp.com/liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl

If all that fails and you want an all in one app (that uses most of the tools I have just linked) then here is a nice freeware one:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/DVD_Flick.htm
I have not used it since late beta but it was damn good then and the big changelogs I am seeing will have only helped.

Post back if you have any problems.

After going through your extensive tutorial Fast6191 , i realized how lazy i was and went with Jax's recommended program.

I have to thank you Jax your program did the whole thing , making it a quick and painless prossess.

sorry for not useing your method Fast6191 but im one to like the quick way out .

ill be sure to look through it in the future any ways, just encase there are some skills i may find useful.

I agree with Jax that software is amazing I use it all the time for multiple xvids2dvd. The software is by VSO and used to be divx2dvd but could handle EVERY video file type so they released the latest with menu support and named it anything2dvd. Its very easy drag and drop, click convert and your done.
As for the subtitles if you have them in the right format its very easy to add them.
I think Convert X to DVD v2.1.10.209 is latest its on usenet.

No worries whatsoever Lufagathrath, DVDflick is essentially an open source version of convertx2dvd though and about as versatile for anyone else reading.
