I have an old3ds running Luma3ds and it really shouldn't be this hard to find something that works.
You all know the infamous 7-in-1 Mario bootleg, yeah? With good old GRAND DAD and all that? Well, I've recently downloaded it and wanted to play it on my 3ds. I realize I can simply use my computer if I wish, but that's not something one can use if they want to be mobile.
There are two major problems with it, however:
    1) The bootleg is an NES game.
    2) It's a bootleg.
Problem 1 arises with the fact that there are a maximum amount of (at least what I've encountered) three different NES emulators for the 3ds. Two of them don't work (3DNES didn't load and FCEMU gave me endless rainbow pixels) and the only one that seems to work (quickNES) won't load the game because of problem 2 (at least, that's what I assume-the only other people who had the same error as I did needed GBA bios).
So, obviously, there's only one other solution: rebuild the game into a .cia as a virtual console game. It worked for Vietnamese crystal and other various romhacks, so it should be no problem, yeah? Well, fun fact: there is, because I have not found a single comprehensible tutorial on how to turn NES games into the cia format. The closest I found was in this thread: (https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-general-vc-rom-injection-thread-nes-gb-c-a-etc.371894/) but its guide for the NES portion was very confusing and simply not something I can understand.

So, I ask, person reading this thread: what can I do? I would personally prefer a way to convert it to cia, but some sort of working emulator would be great too.

NES bootlegs are a bit complicated - unlike most ROM hacks they use custom mappers and the like that aren't emulated by Nintendo's emulators.

If you cant figure out how to inject the rom into VC to play that way... emulator is gonna be your only option.
Use RetroArchs newest build for NES, they may even have more than one option.. I know they did for SNES.

Are we talking 3dsx versions only not working on 11.0?

I wouldnt know. I was just basing off what Ive read others say.
I dont use Retro, or any emulators at all really.
Apparenly 11.0 broke Retro, but new Luma builds fix that issue.
    *shrugs*

Well, um...I got somewhere? The retroarch version of FCEMU works in that I can actually play the game, but...that's about the only normal thing about it. As soon as I clicked the "MARIO 7" option, I was greeted with a mess of glitched pixels. Basically the rom looks like it was run through a corruptor. The game still works, albeit a bit slow, and I can sort of make out the squares of the enemies and my character, but it's really all just a glitch mess.

Still, it's something. Thanks for helping me out!

Emulation is not very accurate, and using hacked or modded roms only makes things worse.
Honestly, VC injection would probably be the best bet in this scenario, unless you magically find a CIA of that particular hack already made somewhere.

Whoopsies. Sorry, didnt see or know that till now.
Like I said, I do little to no emulation on my system.
Thats unfortunate though.. since from the sounds of it, using an emulator isnt much of a viable solution in this case.

Edit - Does this mean that they wont run at all? Or just that theyll become corrupt like hes already experiencing with Retro?

you could try using the nes emulator for the gba and inject that into gba vc google gba nes emulator the roms are injected into a gba rom so it should work

But is all that work really worth it for 7 Grand Dad? If it even works?

They work if you use Luma CFW as it reintroduces the flaw/bug into 11.0 FIRM that retroarch and other emulators use and or require. I forgot the exact name of that flaw/bug though.
