I'm using ethe simplistic mode guide

Reading troughe the following I have a couple of questions.

Setting up the SD Card
1st download the precompiled link update.zip for your region by emailing [email protected]
Extract the "update.zip" & put the files onto a SD card & insert the SD card into the Wii.

See, I actually updated my Wii by setting up the internet channel for teh first time and in the system menu it says it is version 4.2U, I dunno if there is a normal version 4.2 and then a 4.2U or something like that so that's why I'm asking.

Also the first two guides say that I have to run bannerbomb t install the DVDx, botmii and that stuff but...why twice?
It's kinda confusing altough it's supposedly fool proof :/

well,
4.2U means that you are on firmware 4.2, region US. You can skip the first step because you don't need to update.
You only have to install BootMii etc. if you werent on 4.2 already. This is because of safety measures if the updateing would go wrong.

the guide says this:

Run Preloader .30 to install preloader onto your system.

Why is it recommended?

bootmii can recover your wii if installed as boot2, if only installed as ios you install preloader to recover your wii. both these options are used ONLY if something goes wrong and you brick your wii.
i just did my first soft mod on wednesday following simplistic guide and as long as you carefully read through as you go u will be fine.

Last question, in said gudie tehre is teh following.

* Download DOP-IOS and extract it to the apps folder on the SD card. (rename the dol to boot.dol !)

Yet, there is no dol file that can be renamed as boot.dol in that folder.


Ohh, I tought tehre was a file just named blank.dot as opossed to the name of the file.dol, I get it.
