Apple Headphone jack...shrinking?

So I think the 3.5mm headphone jack on my iPhone is shrinking. I know that's sounds ridiculous but let me explain.
1 I thought it might have been just my tape adapter plug was expanding. It had been getting harder and harder to fit into my iPhone for a while now.
2. Today my headphones wouldn't exactly fit all the way down into the jack. They would trigger the music off and then kinda slip out a tiny bit and it would stop.
3. So I tried a pair of headphones in the computer lab and a friends Beats by Dre. None of them fit.

Has anyone heard of this happening?

It could be filled up with debris?

I had the same and I once with a DS and I cleaned it out.

How do you suggest I go about cleaning sucha small space?

Perhaps with cotton buds?

Cardboard soaked in citric acid
Lollypop sticks soaked in citric acid.
