Hardware HDTV sound issues

Hello, people. I'm trying to utilize my HDTV's internal speakers for sound output for my computer. I bought an RCA cable, and I'm having some issues getting this setup. It's apparently not as simple as I thought it would be. Help?

WHY in the world would you use RCA cables? Why not HDMI, or even VGA? Even the dreaded S-Video would give better quality.

But also, I don't know of a single computer with RCA output.

So... Use the above methods. If using DVI/VGA, then you need a separate sound cable.

And yes, I know you meant sound, but... you don't make sense.

No, I mean on the TV. Often there are both input and output ones.

"AV In" I'd assume is the correct one

HDMI will have the sound channel built in. DVI and VGA usually have to be accompanied with a 3.5mm male-male mini jack cable running from the speaker port on the PC to the back of e TV (usually). To the best of my knowledge, "computer" inputs on TVs are incompatible with RCA/AV sound inputs, and can only use a mini jack cable for sound. The same for other TV ports (composite, component, HDMI), they cannot receive sound through a mini jack cable.

One way to bypass this for all systems (I believe) is to use an optical sound cable (coaxial?). The port looks a bit like a house and all HDTVs and consoles have them. All good sound cards should have one too.

Does your TV have a VGA slot? A lot of HDTVs do, Accompanied by a 3.5mm audio jack for sound.

But the choice with the least hassle would be HDMI if your comp supports it.

actually, I used a wire like this one to connect my computer to my amplifier and it works.

also, some soundcard or soundcard extension bay comes with audio rca connectors.

1. the speaker outbut is the green one (if color coded)
2. refer to your hdtv manual to find which AUX channel is associated with your rca input.

"connect my computer to my amplifier" does not mean connecting it directly to the TV RCA in ports. It means connecting to an amplifier. Using a mini jack to RCA adaptor counts as a "workaround" solution.

Video: VGA/DVI. HDMI. Composite/component
Sound: mini jack. HDMI. L/R RCA audio cables.

That's the kind of input association TVs (that I've encountered at least) have. If there's a way to cross them over, I've not come across it. Some TVs may have that option, but again I've not come across them.
