remember to not patch anything for IOS files.

If you don't patch anything for officially bought games or channels, you can only reinstall it on your own console (unless you format, you'll get a new console key)

IOS : no patches
channels : no patches = private wad, for your own console. patches = working on other consoles.

@Cyan what I'm theorizing is that their could have been a possibility that the installer was not fully downloaded, if I remember correctly during the time of downloading the installer first time I was having problems with internet connection, so if my theory is correct then if I uninstall hbc then reinstall the hbc then usb devices should work. I think it might be the hbc because all other homebrew I've tested can read from usb devices just fine, it's only the hbc. Post results when I get them...

why do you want him to replace his IOS58 ? he already tried twice.
I'm sure it's not the IOS, nor the HBC.

He didn't answer about GPT. Not that it's the problem, just want to know more about his drives. Maybe they are MBR, and it's another problem.
Maybe it's the USB Port which is defective ! did you try the other one?
Can you try another console ?
you also reported an issue with using a SD card or not.

If the (new) problem is the HBC appearing upside down (because its IOS was modified after installation), simply reinstall it with the official installer (or better yet, upgrade to 1.1.3 without that gimmick)

I can use an SD Card, lol it would be impossible to install homebrew then :P *cough* wii mini *cough*. I mainly partition in mbr, though I have tried gpt and it too has failed. my main drive I'm trying to get working has worked on all wiis from the past so I doubt it's the problem, I'm starting to wonder if the wii has gone defective. How would I figure if the port is defective?

I've yet to discover a compiled version of 1.1.3, I cannot be bothered due to laziness to compile to check to see if it works, Links to a build would be nice if you do have one :) also no, that upside down screen bug isn't a problem, it's been taken care of for hours now

EDIT:even better I found a compiled 1.1.4 version from Fix94. I shall try that one and report back...

(and here is 1.1.4 but it's less reliable, according to some people who tried it)

No Wii software, to the best of my knowledge, supports GPT (which is probably a violation of the SD standards)
MBR with a single partition is the way to go, use Panasonic's SDFormatter with the "erase size adjustment" option enabled to restore an SD to standards compliance (then, if it was a SDXC, convert that single partition to FAT32 - properly doing that means both reformatting it, and changing the partition type in the MBR from "7" to "C")

There's no test software that I know of (beyond copying your wii sports save to SD and back, lol, using a regular SD <= 2GB for maximum compatibility)

For usb drives _-_
Same comments about partition tables and filesystems are applicable; apart of getting a copy of whatever Dragon Quest uses an USB drive (or any funky USB accessory) the test would be with another USB-using homebrew (WiiXplorer, CleanRip, etc)
