Hacking HBC 1.0.8 Update

Does anyone know if someone has captured and shared the data that the HBC sends/receives and if so where it can be found? Is it possible to configure a router/firewall to block any HBC communications?

I know, but Team Twiizers did NEVER recommend to update through Nintendo before, but look at Wiibrew:
It still doesn't recommend to update your wii, it says to optionally update after running the latest hackmii installer, and to only update using the proper procedure instead of some "safe" upgrader.

I'm reading upgrader, downgrader again and again and how dangerous they are, but what exactly is a downgrade and upgrade?
Both, downgrades and upgrades are basically just installations of

1) System Menu
2) System Menu IOS

If you know what titles you need for a proper update/downgrade, then those installations are safe, yes they are safe. I did never brick any Wii by installing a system menu and its IOS. A Wii console does not brick so easily.

Yet (e.g.) Waninkoko's downgraders are such pieces of shit that under quite common circumstances they brick all Wiis, deterministically, or at least some versions did (some 30 or so of the bricked Wiis that I got e-mailed about were bricked by running one of Waninkoko's downgraders/upgraders under certain circumstances, which would cause them to always brick the Wii).

Waninkokos Downgraders and Updaters (that marcan likes so much

) are outdated since ages and yet you complain about them being unsafe and cause a lot of bricks. Get it in your head dude, no one with common sense is using an updater or downgrader anymore. But let me tell you something marcan, those bricks were caused by stupid idiots who just run stuff on their Wii in hoping that they might be usefull.

There is no chance a Wii of someone who posseses common sense would brick so easily.


I read several times, that you blame cIOS for being unsafe and cause bricks, but honestly you dont believe your words yourself, dont you? There is NO WAY a cIOS would cause a brick and you know that. I think you just want to bash Waninkoko and pirates for being humiliated, isnt it so?

cIOS Installers put IOS files on FREE and UNUSED SLOTs, which means, the possibility of a brick is ZERO, oh hell they are even safer than Nintendos boot2 update code

Thats hilarious. You guys did NEVER recommend updating, espacially if an update does not add any new features. When 4.2 was out, you guys warned people to NOT update their Wiis because of the unsafe boot2 code, because of the lack of features and yet you recommend to update to 4.3. You clearly contradict yourselfs

WiiBricker i agree that the waninkoko downgrader is the thing of the past. yes there are some risks but still an effective tool.
secondly i've used the downgrader a fare amount w/o issue or brick (then again i also never remove bootmii and have stable dumps of older fw) just incase there is an issue and brick because what if for 1 instance a breaker pops, or one of the older rev of ios's are not on nintendo's server(i highly dought will ever happen because updated ios's would be placed in it's stay) if i where to what what the best fw is for the wii is currently it would be 3.3 believe it or not if i wasn't so up for being up to date i would stick to it.

Installed ios58 then updated homebrew channel from 1.0.6 to 1.0.8 and everything is working fine just as it did before. Fortunately priiloader 0.4 can launch any channel you have installed so I can still start hbc from there even if it has a new ID.

The latest Priiloader supports HBC 1.07 and 1.08.

Goto to your priiloader and enable beta updates then search for an update. It's say's version 0.5 is available although it's still 0.4 with the title id mod.

update nvm downloaded the beta from priiloaders google.code works out nicely now.

thats a good question. as it seems the rev of priiloader that has the compatability with HBC 107+ isn't on the google.code they have setup. could always compile a build of it and install it offline from teh wii.

Yeah no idea why but DacoTaco has yet to release it officially.

Ok am I missing something? I updated today, without any trouble. Tested all my stuff, emu's, loaders, etc, anything else I could think of. All works fine. I've read this entire thread and I'm wondering if there is some fundamental issue that people are confused on. I'd like to put in like this in two points, one as I understand things, and two as I THINK others are misunderstanding, please someone confirm or correct me on both points.

1.(how i understand thigns) HBC has been updated. WiiBrew folks decided not to "host" cIOS stuff on THEIR site anymore. Does not stop anyone from getting that stuff somewhere else. Does not stop anyone from using those apps gotten from somewhere else with the new HBC. You just wont find them on WiiBrew anymore. WiiBrew folks, in updating HBC have chosen to change the way they do things so that cIOS are pretty much obsolete in the future. Thus maintaining their stance against the cIOS methods. Custom cIOS installers, apps that use cIOS 222, 249, or whatever STILL run fine from the new HBC. WiiBrew is just pointing out that they have made it possible to run apps without the need for these methods. They have NOT turned off or disallowed anything, other than just removing them from their site.

2.(how i think its being misunderstood) People hear that the new HBC has made it possible to no longer "need" cIOS's in future apps. They assume this means ANY app that used a cIOS will now instantly not work with the new HBC. The flames start flying both ways, pirate vs. non-pirate gets mentioned and all of a sudden people think there is something bad about this new update. Someone mentions an app that no longer seems to work (possible bug or user issue, or something totally unrelated to HBC) and everyone freaks out.

So if these points are both true, the ONLY issue is that WiiBrew has chosen to not host cIOS based apps, and apps that use cIOS's on their site. And if so, what is the problem?? Just trying to bring some common sense back into the mix. If im wrong please tell me cause then, I may really have an opinion on all this, cIOS's have brought me alot of joy, maybe I should be upset, or maybe someone who runs a website should and is able to put whatever they want on their site.

If you are asking me, then must be 34 b/c i didnt update 58. Been doing some reading since I posted, thinking of updating to 58 in the morning, if thats what needs doing. But everything seems to work fine as is. Are there issues/problems with leaving it on 34? I'm a 4.1u with no intention of updating my system menu...ever.

I was just wondering, I update HBC with 34 and no 58 installed and everything works great. I didn't have a 58 installed before HBC installation.
