Yeah, I know. I feel like a dick for making one of these already. I hate wasting peoples time so don't answer if you don't want to. I'm just looking for a rpg that is actually hard. Like, ya know, with some grinding. There are so many rpgs on the ds that are made so that you don't need to grind, but when I beat it I feel like I didn't work for it ya know?

Crap, sorry. I meant traditional turn-based rpg... hahaha... If you really want to I don't mind others, but I'm really looking for a hard turn-based rpg.

Shin Megami Tensei : Strange Journey or Etrian Odyssey. I found Etrian Odyssey harder than SMTSJ

Super Robot Teisen OG Saga.
You can start off with all 8 members fully powered up and throw in the largest attack/combo you can chain, only to find out you barely put a dent in a Boss' support. Its one of the few games out there that was hard for me even though I had Infinite HP/MP cheats active.

That's not difficulty. That's BS added to give you the illusion of a long game.

It's only hard until you spend an hour grinding. At that point, you never need to artificially level again until the very end. Which is, in fact, "ass-rapingly difficult."

Lunar Dragon Song is ridiculous, the monster scales with your level so, it's actually easier to play the game at low level then at high level :\

Hmm, the shin megami devil survivor/strange journey, those always makes me cry and swear

and the rest has been mentioned by the others.

Black Sigil is hard only at the beginning since there's a high encounter rate and let's face it, you are not exactly carrying shit loads of recovery items :\ But once you have a decent party, the game is pretty easy.

Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja. You die constantly and lost all what you got: weapons, armor, items, everything. You just keep your level. The dungeons are randomly designed, so you just wander and wander and wander just trying not to be killed.

Final Fantasy IV was pretty hard...particularly the boss battles which could take trial and error to figure out the weaknesses if you're patient but I took the easy route and looked up a strategy guide hehe. Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey and Devil Survivor are also challenging games...Strange Journey especially. Still working towards beating both games but having a blast.

The hell are you talking about?
At the...60%? mark of the game you will naturally be a high enough level to have your attacks chained. (y'know, 1 button push uses all 3 moves in a chain). After that point the game is easy as hell. I was really disappointed by how the difficulty dropped because of such a stupid addition to the games combat system.

Only hard turn based RPGs on the DS that i've played are SMT: Devil survivor/Strange Journey.
Both are pretty damn difficult. Devil survivor is definitely harder though.

Oh and no final fantasy game has ever been hard....so I have no idea why they were brought up.

It's true that FF3 and 4 can be very hard, but once you find bosses's weaknesses and grind a little bit, it's fine. But they're really good games. The World Ends With You is really hard in hard mode, but much more interesting. You can still try Izuna or Shiren if you're not allergic to A-RPGs.
