So I modded my WUP-010 (AUS) 32gb Wii U with tiramisu in the summer of 2023 but around the winter time, I went to play Lego Stars the force awakens and when I booted up my Wii U, I got the black error screen telling me there was a problem with the disk drive, error - 160-1400. It's been a long time and I have seen a lot of videos about changing the CM10 or CM09 fuses. Randomly one day I used my gamepad startup menu and opened up NUSPLII, it worked just fine and also if I was able to do it quickly, I could boot into the vWii.
So I was wondering, if there is any way I could somehow bypass the error screen and use my Wii U without the disc drive?, since all of my games are already installed via Homebrew. Or do anything else without soldering to atleast use my Wii U.
it's supposed to just work without a disc drive, if you disconnect it physically or configure the seeprom sata device type to none in minute_minute if you don't want to have to take it apart
BUT
without a disc drive, vWii will not work correction, the Wii system menu will not work, but vc will work (wii games installed to the wii u menu), but only if they are installed to usb. if they are installed to nand they wont work because of reasons
I would be interested in seeing though if you can direct boot into vWii channels without a disc drive, with boot2vWii because it technically bypasses having to go into the system menu, or if you are really stuck with only vc injections. because if that works then you can just do that, and make a forwarder that runs usb loader gx so you can run wii and gamecube games from there, and use emunand for wads

you could try, maybe with some luck your problem is different and it actually works for you. worst case scenario it doesnt work and you can just plug everything back in
also I got the exploit name wrong, udpih is what you want to use not bluubomb
although if you cant do that exploit then maybe bluubomb might still be viable
it might be possible to disable the drive in minute_minute while it's temporarily running, without installing isfshax, but I dont recommend making changes like this without isfshax just in case
No then it will give the 160-1400 error. If the drive isn't there or the Wii U can't talk to it (for example because one of the chokes is broken) it will give that error.
So the only solution is either to fix the Hardware or disable it in the seeprom

The vWii Menu would load, but you can't load anything from there. On the Wii U, the PPC has a bootrom, which only launches signed Ancast Images. For the vWii there are only two: the vWii Menu and the nandloader. The nandloader is there to chainload Wii Binarys, which aren't ancast images. Like channels or Games from Disc. The nandloader checks for the Disc drive and will cause the error. So the vWii Menu works, because it doesn't need the nand loader.
Since the nandloader must be signed, it cant be patched out. But the NAND loader uses an IOS function to check the drive. So that call can be spoofed with a custom IOS. But no one released a public patch for the system IOS.
HAI emulates the disc drive anyway, so Wii U Wii VC still works.
Since you are coldbooting the payloadloader, you can use that to load minute:
Make sure you have the isfshax files on the SD, or at least minute (fw.img) and the fw_img_loader. Then hold B during boot and select the fw_img_loader. If it crashes before you can select it, you can replace the payload.elf in the wiiu folder with the fw_img_loader one. Once in minute you can disable the disc drive in the Backup and restore menu.

There the drive PCB is still connected. If the Wii U can talk to that you don't get the error. But in OPs case the Wii U can't talk to the drive (it's PCB) so he gets the error. Removing a part of the drive that the Wii U can't even talk to won't help.
