Hacking Hacking DSi 2015?

Try a regular 3DS.

JK, I wish that torture on no one.
I've cracked open one of those to take a peek at it and gage how much work was needed to do a NAND mod (Which I declined at the time because fuck the contact point under the card reader, although I may mail it out and have it done later), and holy crap it looks terrifying lol.

Oh, taking the bottom half apart is no big deal really. It's the top screen assembly that's awful.

PS. I don't like it when I have to use a hairdryer on electronics just to take them apart. It's bullshit and the companies that make the stuff know it.

Hm, I'll probably have to take it in to someone that can work with parts that small. I'll probably screw it up somehow. I do have soldering experience, but not with points that small.

The points are very small. I was surprised when I opened up the system. They took a bit of work since you also need to scratch the board to expose the contacts to Solder to.

Does anyone know where I can find some info on DSi NAND dumping? I can't seem to find any information aside from the pinout picture. I am wondering if it is different from the 3DS NAND dumping process.

Here is what I am doing:

1. I turn on the DSi with the card reader attached to my SD.
2. When the console gives the Error code I then disconnect the card reader from the DSi and plug the reader into my computer.
---->Note: I have tried also just connecting the reader with the DSi attached as well.
3. Once the drivers load on the computer I plug my DSi back into the card reader.
4. Nothing... the system does not appear so I can read with win32diskimager.

Any ideas? I've checked my soldering and everything is showing properly with my multi-meter. Is there a length of the wires that would matter? I know the 3DS has issues with longer wires but mine are pretty short.

i was tempted to do one a while back on a dead dsi, but wasn't worth the effort as i only wanted to see why it was dead as the error code it had suggested emmc issues, curiosity didnt get the better of me that time, but it does sit in a draw......im assuming the nand dumping process should be pretty much the same as the 3DS, afaik they both just use emmc so i would assume as long as you have one of the n3DS compatible card readers it *should* work with the DSi unless heaven forbid the DSi is even more twitchy with compatible readers than even the 2DS/n3DS

That's what I thought too. The reader that I am using is the same one I use for my N3DS XL. It's the TekRepublic TUC-300 and it works perfectly with my N3DS and O3DS.

I have a EUR DSi from launch in 1.4.5, with the DSi game of Guitar... With software what I can do when the exploit is out?
It seems to re-enable the DSiWare entry points. That doesn't mean instant piracy, it just means that you can use homebrew with it.

still have a 1.4 dsi maybe i'll try that nand mod out of curiosity :D

if I backup my nand, could I can also use that to restore it if I accidentally updated it like on 3ds?

Yes, there's no efuse-lockout style system in place on either the 3DS or DSi.

Well, now that I'm thinking about it, the list that @WulfyStylez posted means that I can safely update and still be able to have an exploitable system. I may lose cookhax, but I still have options. I'll have to get myself some DSi points and have them on reserve for when such exploit is released. I shouldn't have to worry about backing up my NAND, although I may lose my Acekard's ability to run.

Also, is TAD installation going to be possible with this hack? I know that there isn't a lot of these files in the wild right now, so piracy via TAD installation will be next to impossible because the format isn't known that well yet.

It's amazing how little we know about this nearly 5 year old device lol.

Will 1.4.2 good enough for the new exploit?
Sure, if you already have a required game. Else, update, and buy a required game from the shop. It's not that expensive, and you need it anyway.
If you don't have a required game, you HAVE TO UPDATE AND BUY IT. That's REGARDLESS of your current firmware.
