Hacking a o3DS XL with a broken wifi chip?

My friend wants to hack his 3DS XL but his wifi chip is broken. He is on version 11.9.0-42E. Would it be possible to install Luma3DS?

If the WiFi chip is fully broken, the console will show black screens with the blue LED on normally – but nothing else.

Not finding any access points? → Maybe the antenna cable is loose
O3DSXL or N3DSXL? → For the old model it is trivial to swap the WiFi board. Try another WiFi board if you think it is the problem. The WiFi is non-replaceable on new models.

If he has wireless on, it crashes within a few seconds. It's an o3DS XL. His R4 is an R4iSDHC Dual-Core marked with 2018, but it says the 3ds version is <=11.15.0 on the ntrboot compatibility table
Edit: Nevermind, I didn't see the multi-system guide. Will do it once he gives me his 3ds and r4.

Update: I got Luma3ds working on his 3DS
