So I have a very early early serial switch that should definitely be hackable but it does not go into rcm at all. I even went as far as pulling the emmc & hitting power button but it just doesn't do anything. My payload loader doesn't light up & my computer doesn't see it as plugged in. I've tried 5 different cables. No difference.
What could cause a no rcm condition

My guess is also that you're not entering RCM properly. Try again with a good quality jig, or mod your right joycon, like I did.

It is impossible for a console to never be able to enter RCM. Even consoles not vulnerable to Fusee Gelee such as Mariko or patched units can still enter RCM. Whatever you're using is not shorting pin 10 properly so either try again or use something else such as aluminum foil, a paperclip, or even a sim card remover. Also entering RCM is never guaranteed on the first try.

Thanks for the response. I'm certain it's not my jig. I've actually removed the emmc in order to force it into rcm.

As @Draxzelex mentioned above, every Switch console should be able to enter RCM, hackable or not. Yours would be the first one, if it can't. I advise you to try again with different techniques. You're bound to find the right way, eventually.

Thank you for your help. I'm not unfamiliar with entering RCM and have probably done it on hundreds of switches. I'm certain it is not my procedure that is the problem. Removing the emmc is a guaranteed way of setting the system into rcm. I can't help but think there has to be a component that is at fault. I'm just not certain what it is.
I do greatly appreciate the responses.

I have the same problem, same situation.. I have to hackable switches, one will instantly be recognized by tegraRCM, regardless of the switch being in rcm or horizon os/home menu.. The other one won't get detected at all via usb, it seems like it is in RCM but won't get detected.. I tried different cables, although all i normally use work for the working switch... I have several jigs, all seem to work.

I also did sent the "faulty" one to a repair shop, because i suspected that the usb c port was damaged, he told me everything would be ok (free, paid nothing but postage...) Dunno what to try anymore

I have 3 more Switches with these same symptoms. I've noticed all 3 only charge with an official Nintendo charger when the Switch is booted into the OS. Anybody come across this or resolve this?
