Etrian Odyssey IV - A great entry in the Etrian Odyssey series. Great for beginners due to it's casualized gameplay. Graphics are amazing and you will most likely find yourself playing for hours a day like I did. Demo available
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Maiden - A remake of the first on IV's engine. New feature include a story mode with preset characters, floor jumping and grimoire stones. Unlike IV you just explore one big dungeon, but floor jumping will make it easier to go between floors, a bit too easy if you ask me. Grimoire stones are a basically dumbed down sub-classing system that was found in Etrian Odyssey III and IV which let you gain access of a second class' skill tree, except this time you gain can gain a certain class' and certain monster's skills depending on what grimoire a monster drops. Story is nothing breath taking, but that's not a negative. The must play version due to the original's bugged skills that wouldn't work. Also the music is the best out of the two games. Demo also on the eShop
Shin Megami Tensei IV - I'm going to be straight honest with you, people are praising this game way too much. It's a good RPG, but it has it's flaws and it's not the best in the mainline series,. Story is the weakest in the mainline series, some of the demon artwork is absolutely atrocious, battles are artificially difficult. The game is pretty easy if you know what to do (which isn't hard. protip: mainly focus on magic, the game barely even cares about any other stats and this is a major flaw), but the music and graphics are amazing.
seriously listen to the music
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivors Overclocked - An enhanced port of the DS game. Story is something out of those manga and anime that 13-15 year olds like so that's a positive, a negative, or a "don't care" how you look at it. Game's pretty fun though it's a sRPG with turn-based battles, and in typical Shin Megami Tensei fare you have your demons to join you in battle and what not. Has good voice acting which is nice.
Shin Megami Tensei - Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers - a port of a Playstation / Sega Saturn game. Story's pretty good and by the best out of the 3DS titles. Gameplay is dated however and if you can stand PS1 era RPGs then you should look into this game. Unlike the other SMT games the demons here don't level up so fusion is vital, also demons don't obey your every move.
Games to avoid
Code of Princess - Repetitive garbage with an annoying cast of characters, tons of reused enemies, and a even worse story.
Project X Zone - Don't let this sRPG fool you that it might be good, it's nothing a mindless button mashing pile of dog doo doo . The only reason this game is popular is because this game is a fanservice game that came to the west. please avoid it. There's a demo out in the eShop, if you don't believe me that this game is poo play it and as soon you go into battle start mindlessly button mashing and see how much damage you can do to the enemy.
