I just CTRL "-" my screen to about 6" and could not see a big difference, but thanks, you've been really helpful.

I see a clear difference even on the switch screen. Depends on the person I guess. I only game in 4k outside the switch so i might be more sensitive.

It’s not worth the large increase in temperature and decrease in battery life just to have a slightly higher resolution in Wolfenstien 2 :/

The game that could benefit greatly with overclock is fortnite because its savefile has some simple files that defines resolution framerate and also the antialiasing anastropic filtering etc just like on pc.
Even 4k is possible much like the obvious ban.The switch with the overclock could maybe do 720p and medium to high settings at 25-30 fps

There is a difference, but not a big one. We should know more about the drawbacks of going way up 768mhz before doing anything crazy.

Docked mode's hot like hell already. It doesn't matter at all compare to handheld mode with the same clock speed. 20000mAh power bank is on the go anyway.

I agree. 768 mhz should be safe since it is the stock docked setting, and in handheld mode you feel when it is getting too hot, unlike docked. Given the leap in resolution in wolf, I think it is worth it. at least in this game.

by the way, the stock setting in wolf seems to be 384 mhz according to the text file, explaining the small difference when overlocking to 460 mhz.

If you want to do insane overclocking and possibly damage your system, go for it. I’m just saying that it’s a bad idea

it's a stock speed even underclock/ unvoltage of the maximum power. It's okay on handheld mode as it will be ways cooler than docked mode for sure. Nintendo designs the Switch to play on the docked mode so it's absolutely safe.

Charging and playing at the same time isnt a great idea. I remember one time i was playing zelda botw while charging even without oc and the fan was turning crazy it was really loud.

I’m not gonna consider it as being “safe” until m4xw (or another trustworthy person) says that it’s safe.

say hello to more cracks and bends.

    — Posts automatically merged - Please don't double post! —

You have the screen producing more head, the battery producing more heat and let's not forget your hands produce a lot of heat. Use this only if you want to have to replace your switch very soon.

I wouldn't use docked OC w/o charger for prolonged periods of time
GPU Power drain is a whole different beast.
460MHz GPU alone already produces more heat (and therefore battery drain, heat itself is NOT the issue, even counting in battery producing heat as well) than nearly doubling the CPU clocks.
Also don't forget people will combine all this shit.
If I add it, then only while charging.

Have you done tests of the kind of power consumption increase we can expect?
If a test were done with a game that has dynamic resolution like Wolfenstein or DOOM, (To keep GPU load maxed out at any frequency) with the battery charged at 100%, plugged in and measuring power consumption from the wall while keeping screen brightness exactly the same, then that would accurately represent the maximum increase in power consumption (And of heat) that we can expect from such frequencies, something that's also useful for people using power banks and stuff like that.

Also, since most games either have the framerate locked to 30FPS or already run at 60, wouldn't that mean that a CPU overclock would mostly go to waste in commercial games, beyond select situations?

I see way too many people worried about "heat", u guys realize that the system wont get hotter with this that it gets by docking it, right?

Can anyone try Gal*Gun 2 with Overclock? Since it's 30FPS on the Switch. Maybe it isn't capped up just generally just so slow.

@m4xw Could be possible to change the voltage? Maybe is a stupid thing but at least in PC is usual that the cpu/gpu come with a higher voltage that the needed (to make sure that the most amount of units work) and can be undervolted at least slightly.

It will get slightly hotter since the screen is disabled in docked, unlike handheld. However, air flow should be better since there are no plastic walls around it (the dock)

iirc, Dynasty Warrior 8 is unlocked frame rate on handheld mode.
