I haven't played Pokemon in forever and I want to get back into it, which would be the best one to get back into?
I think the only Pokemon game I've completed is Pokemon Platinum but sadly I don't own a DS anymore (I'm hoping to get a DSi XL or something but I'm broke and can't afford something like that right now ): )

If you've been in the Shoutbox, I bidded on Pokemon Yellow (though I didn't win it) and a Zelda GBA SP (currently I'm winning but it's already on my max bid and someone will sweep in at the end). If I don't win that bid, I'm hoping to buy my cousins GBA SP off him so I'm set for the GB/A generation.

So far my choices right now are
  • Red or Blue
  • Yellow
  • Gold or Sliver
  • Crystal
  • Ruby or Sapphire
  • Emerald
  • Fire Red or Leaf Green
There is also the Soul Sliver/Heart Gold remakes and if I should wait until I own a DS to get them.
Can't you tell I'm confused? aha.

Edit: Oh and emulators are a no before someone says, I hardly pirate anymore.

Gold/silver. They have two regions, and you get to go back to kanto and destroy everyone.

don't waste your time buying any games, or a DS in that matter.

Just emulate these games,

i suggest you play pokemon leaf green or fire red, than play pokemon crystal, because it goes in that order, well its normally red/blue/yellow then gold/silver/crystal. but why would u play red/blue when u can play fr/lg

When emulating games on my PSP or computer, I don't get any motivation to finish it.

When you buy a game you think "I bought this motherfucking game and I'm going to motherfucking finish it".

give Emerald and firered/leafgreen a go, despite what everyone says gen 3 wasn't so bad and you can have alot of fun picking up the last 3 games of it. Though if you don't mind loosing your team definitely go with silver. (The 3rd generation of pokemon used a vastly different battle system made from the ground up that cuts off gen 1 and gen 2. It plays almost the same but its the little things that get it.)

If you do decide to wait for a DS the gen 2 remakes are very nice but black and white are cheaper so I'd say give those a grab instead.

How are you confused? Like in the differences between the games? What makes them more appealing than the other?

Fire Red/ Leaf Green are really fun to play and are the 1st generation remake... so... all that nostalgy!!!

Emerald is quite good too!

SS/HS are the remakes of Gold and Silver... so yeah, they rule too!

Black and White, Kinda gave a revolution to the pokemon world, so play those too!

I'd go far Leaf Green. Was the one I remembered I had the most fun with.

And I know you don't like emus, but there's a very badly translated, but funny, Pokemon game called Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal.

Play it if you would like a laugh.

EDIT: I love you emigre.

I think my order might be Fire Red > Emerald > -when I get a DS- Platinum (again) > Soul Silver > Black

Like Fire Red, Soul Silver, etc. aha.QUOTE(emigre @ Oct 6 2011, 01:50 PM)
Well hardcore gamers such as yourself would think lowly of a topic of this level.

For GBA - I simply enjoy Emerald. Don't really enjoy FireRed/LeafGreen after HGSS is out, but Red/Blue is an exception.

For DS - HGSS are enjoyable, Platinum is a very nice upgrade from DP (especially the transition speeds - much faster than DP). As for BW, it can be pretty different from Gen IV. The transitions are extremely fast. Trainers are much tougher. Some parts of Unova are just too small. Overall it's still okay, but I find it lacking pretty much in content (like DP).

In terms of awesomeness i find Pokemon Emerald to be the best, and yellow right behind.
I dont see a reason to play Red/Blue as there is remakes for them and the remake is kinda easier to figure out where to go compared to red/blue.
So in terms of recommendation on what to play in order to get back in pokemon again:
Pokemon Emerald
Pokemon Yellow(Only if you dont mind old school. Is awesome to be able to catch all the 3 starters)
Pokemon Crystal(Again if you dont mind old school)
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
Pokemon Ruby(Why not sapphire? Because Ruby is more challening when trying to catch Groudon xD)
You shouldnt really play ruby if you did play Emerald though.

And emigre is a piece of junk. He doesnt deserve to be called a hardcore gamer. He should go to his own corner of FPS craze.

if/when you get a DS play HeartGold/SoulSilver
Black/White > HeartGold/SoulSiver
I find Black/White to be the best in terms of story. The gameplay however is kinda..... Dreamworld+You=Faceroll.

Haven't played BW so I'll assume you're right

Crystal.

Generation 2 is arguably the best set of games, and Crystal did a really good job of building off of Gold and Silver. Plus the Pokemon sprites are animated, so that should help with the adaptation to the Game Boy from PSP visuals.

good old RED! (not the remake)
Play the games in order. Otherwise, you wont be able to enjoy gen1 after playing gen2.

for the record, my favorite is gen1. Back in '98... Pokemn Red&Blue was a big deal!!
