I'm planning on getting a PSP soon and was wondering if it was possible for it to have the same functionality as a DS and flashcart. That is, I would like to be able to dump my games to a device like my Cyclo to be able to carry them around easier. Is softmodding the best way to accomplish this or is there a something like a flashcart available for the PSP? Also what is the best model to use 1000, 2000 or 3000? Thanks.

Softmod. And a high capacity Mem Stick.

I'll go for 2000 if I were you

PSPs can be hacked via the memory stick slot, but it all depends on the firmware of the psp.
If you're looking for an easy to hack psp, I would go with the 1000, due to the fact that its the easiest
to hack, not to mention that it's guaranteed to work with a pandora battery, whereas select psp 2000's
dont and PSP 3000's dont work with one at all. The best part is that no flash cart is actually required
for a psp, but you probably want to hav a memory stick around 4gb or bigger.

Oh, and Softmod is the way to go, there's a guide on here.

I'm blown anyway by all the information you just gave, anyway.....

All 1000 are fully hackable
2000 have a 50/50% chance of being either fully hackable or semi
All 3000 are semi-hackable

Fully hackable means you can obviously hack it, on any firmware. Any firmware above 5.03 and you will need a pandora and MMS (Magic Memory Stick)
Semi-hackable means you only be able to hack it (temporarily (until you turn off your PSP then you have to re-hack it) if the firmware is under 5.03, anything above and you can't hack it.

If you don't mind carrying a heavy load, go for 1000. Fully hackable, and has a near-useless IR port.
2000 is good too. you can charge it with a USB cable. It's very light compared to the 1000. No IR ports though. UMD slots are very fragile.
3000 if you want the IR port(lol). It's lighter than PSP 2000. Hacks are temporary(I think) but yeah semi-hackable like what prowler said. The home button is now replaced with the Playstation logo.

I'd say PSP 2000. But nowadays Sony released a motherboard similar to the "hackable" PSP 3000.
You'd have to be careful if ever you're gonna buy one.
Actually, PSP 1000 has very little or no problems when it comes to hacking it like playing ISO games, homebrew. Like DS or gba emulator

Refer to the chart here.

Go for 1k, they're so heavy, you can use them for Self-defense.
If you don't need a weapon, 2k is an optionLol'd

Actually, PSP 2k and 3k have double the RAM.
So when it comes to comparing models 2k/3k > 1k
No problems when it comes to DS emulation? LOL WAT. You even tried it?

1000 loads like a slug unlike 2000/3000

Played Dissidia and Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd G(grah) with my friends. I usually loaded last

If you're willing to be selective about what you buy and you don't need infrared, a 2000 has some better specs, although the motherboard issue can make things risky. If you want to be sure, then get a 1000.

On the actual CFW installation side of things, Prowler has already linked you to the guides; if you come across an issue then just post the question and we'll be able to help.

Of course hardware is better in 2000 and 3000 than the PSP 1k

This is only partially accurate, rather that totally accurate.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll try to find a 1000 or hackable 2000 then. I saw some pre-modded PSPs on Amazon, would it be better to get one of those? Also, what is the infrared for?

In my opinion the PSP 1000 is better designed in all terms except speaker placement and thickness. I like the matte backing to it and think it looks a heck of a lot nicer than PSP2000's shiny backing, would also miss the grips created by the sticking out battery. The memory stick slot is a lot more flimsy on a 2000 and I don't trust that UMD drive. It sticks out too far when open and I'd be afraid of it opening randomly while playing a game. I like the tray design of the original PSP's UMD drawer. It feels sturdier and safer. The speaker placement is bullshit though.
In terms of internals the PSP-2000 is better though I don't find loading on my PSP much of a problem.
