before anything DO A DAMN NAND DUMP USING BOOTMII..! Now you have priiloader you can even restore it in case of brick!
If he followed the instructions he was given, which I think he has, he would already have a nand backup. How many times do we need to tell him to make one? If he fails at that, then to bad for him, but he should have one.

Alright, before I do a system format, though; How will I transfer games that lock the save file to an SD card? I downloaded SaveGame Manager GX and found I still couldn't transfer my MKWii and Brawl save files.

And lol, don't worry, i already made a nand backup. I'm not that thick-headed.

Savemanager GX in fact let's you save large save files. (128) I've done it a few times. savefiles should be on wii's NAND rather than SD

Oh jeez. So I backed up my nand and began formatting through the Wii settings. It's now been on the "Formatting the Wii System Memory..." screen for around 40 minutes (the icon on the bottom left is still moving, so it's not frozen). Should it normally take this long, or has something gone awry? I have no idea what would happen if I just shut off the Wii... :/

You cab turn it off, it will not finish. Reinstall system ios, system menu, priiloader, without restarting the Wii, then try format again. You should do a nandbincheck of your nand.bin. and post report.

Don't lose priiloader, be sure to reinstall after system menu before restart.

Or post nandbincheack first

I love how for even the simplest of tasks I run into problems... Both links to the .dll files required to run nandbincheck (from WiiBrew and the GBAtemp thread) are down. I went the tedious route and downloaded all .dlls individually by continuously opening the program to see what the next .dll file was, but in the end I get "The procedure entry point ?begin@QListData@@QBEPAPAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library QtCore4.dll."

Anyway, so what little the format did was wipe a few channels here and there including the Homebrew Channel. Priiloader still works, but did you want me to reinstall that anyway? Also, could you elaborate on "reinstall system ios, system menu"? System Menu is currently at 4.0U, and I'm completely lost when it comes to IOSs (I haven't done any Wii hacking in well over a year due to this situation).

I was thinking of just doing LWare87's original method, but am a little cautious considering that required building a whole new nand and some people have suggested not to go that route as of yet.

Put the priiloader installer on sd:\apps\priiloader\boot.dol
Put wiimod v3.1 on sd:\apps\wiimod\boot.dol
Load wiimod via HBC
Install ios60-v6174, with trucha patch
Install system menu 4.1u
Exit wiimod to HBC, install priiloader 0.7
all without restarting the wii
Then load wii and do system format form settings, see if it passes.
If it fails, try to get that nandbincheck, get those dll's
You may have some bad blocks or corrupted N channels, who knows.
You could go into wiimod title manager and delete all savegames, all installed channels, all system channels. See how that goes. You can delete everything except system titles and hidden channels, leave those alone atm.

all the multiupload links are down from giantpune. So If you need I can upload the dll's tomorrow. But they should be somewhere for you to find. Mine are on another pc, so I don't have them atm.

Alright. Considering the semi-format got rid of the Homebrew Channel, should I just reinstall using Banner Bomb considering I have 4.0U, and do any of these require network installation? I'm not sure what would work considering WiiConnect24 is messed up, preventing me from retrieving any files online via my Wii.

Just load it from priiloader, hold reset and power the wii on to load priiloader. Then load wiimod from priiloader load/install menu.

@HawtDawg: Remember that link, which I provided with my suggestion? That's where you'll find the required DLL's and nandbincheck.

I would only consider my method, as a last resort though. If you wish to retain your gamesaves, you'll need the "pink fish" disc.

Don't download each individual file. Here's a working link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ow9bg9wsto5ak1w

Thanks.

I ran nandbincheck with my nand.bin and this message kept coming up and then immediately closing (it took me quite a few tries to PRT SCRN it before it disappeared).

Install boot2 bootmii, make new nand.bin. format nand with nand.bin formater, check new nand with nandbincheck and restore clean nand via bootmii

Before, I go through with this; how do I know exactly if I have "boot2" bootmii? Is it automatically installed as boot2?

I believe if your disc drive flashes twice when turning on your wii, you have it as boot 2. or if it automatically boots into bootmii when you have your sd in (with bootmii files). if you have to get into bootmii from HBC, then you have it installed to IOS

Thanks for all the help guys, but I kind of fucked up and it's now basically a lost cause.

I did everything fine so far, downloaded all required files to my sd card, backed up my nand.bin, made a setting.txt file, etc.

While actually formatting the nand via the nand installer... it started installing a Cave Story wad. I then thought "Oh shit, I forgot to format my SD card and it's installing the wads I previously had on there." Knowing how important this was, I had no idea what installing other wads was going to do, so I panicked and shut the Wii off in hopes that I would be able to access Maintenance Mode or priiloader and start again.

Basically, the green light comes on but nothing else. Just a black screen. Doesn't even try to enable the video source, just big blue AUX on my screen.

So is this it? Is it totally FUBAR now? I had a feeling this would happen. I know next to nothing about hacking so I guess it was inevitable.

As long as you installed bootmii as boot2 before you did this you are fine. Please tell me you install bootmii as boot2. Bootmii should load at boot with the bootmii files on sd card. If so, format the nand.bin and restore it.

Also I am not clear on what you did. Restoring a nand.bin does not list any specific wads/titles while restoring. So, you must have been using a wad installer.

If you don't have boot2 bootmii installed, which would suck as your wii supported it, your probably in a bad spot. You did not have bootmii installed as boot2 when you did the nand backup you posted, you needed to install it.

Well... I reinstalled bootmii when you said install boot2 bootmii. I had no idea how crucial that was. I figured boot2 bootmii was the default (why would there be any other bootmii available then? :/).

Also, if I was using a wad installer, that's odd what it did to my Wii. I wouldn't think prematurely turning off the Wii during a wad install would cause such a malfunction. I originally had assumed that the wad installation itself must have been a mistake, so I figured aborting it wouldn't have done anything.

BootMii started without the SD Card before, so I don't think I have the specific bootmii files. Would I already have the bootmii files on sd card if I installed bootmii to my Wii?

I fear you may not have installed boot2 bootmii, perhaps you reinstalled priiloader. I don't know, bootmii would have been installed as boot2 via the hackmii installer and it should load at boot when sd card is in wii with the bootmii folder. As boot2 bootmii will flash the blue led drive light twice when installed and booted without sd card or disc in wii. I think you used the comix nand formater which formats nand and installs wads instead of giantpune's nand.bin formater which just formats and makes clean nand.bin to restore via bootmii. If you do have boot2 bootmii, then you can easily fix the wii. If you do not have boot2 bootmii only nand programming can fix it. I wish I had been more clear in my prior post, just hard to type a lot on this phone. I hope you have boot2 bootmii

...Yeah... It only flashes once... :(

I believe I did use comix nand formatter. I also wish you were just a tad more clear. I see there were many things I did wrong; installing bootmii, nand installer, etc.

I did have BootMii installed. I just figured that BootMii would automatically install as boot2 since that seems to be the best alternative.

Also, what would have happened if my power went out during the install? I wouldn't have had any control over that situation and it would have equally messed up my Wii. :O
