Hacking Geexbox/mplayer + HDD question

I'm sorry if it might seem like a nooby question to you (if so, I should have asked in NOOB PARADISE, sorry).

I have recently bought an external HDD which I'm planning to use for various storage, but also for videos that I would like to play on my Wii with Geexbox or Mplayer.

My question is: What format should it be? NTFS? FAT32? Or maybe does it not even matter? I know for a fact that the Xbox 360 only detects FAT32, so maybe it's the same for the Wii?

fat32 primary, make it the first partition if you plan on having more than one.
