Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon
Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon is a simulation RPG that has key features of a dungeon crawler and borrows elements from the Harvest Moon series. Released in 2008, it is the sequel to the original Rune Factory. This game didn't really differ from its predecessor, but that's okay in this instance, not every game series needs to change dramatically between each installment. It is as though the developers have used the original as a base and built over it, which creates a nice feeling of déjà-vu for fans of the series.
The game follows an amnesiac that arrives in Alvarna, a small town full of strange and quirky characters. You are given a farm by a resident of the town, a young woman named Mana.
As you progress through the game you can build relationships with the townsfolk, you can do this by completing their requests and giving them gifts that they like or don't like. Depending on the way you choose to interact with the characters, the dialogue and elements of the story change. The characters in the game have very clearly defined personalities and once you complete the game you are sure to have become attached to them.
The game is set in the same place as the original and features several areas, from the player's farm, to dungeons infested with a wide array of monster that can be fought or tamed. Not into fighting monsters? Why not farm. Not into farming? Why not seduce the good looking townsfolk. There is sure to be something to satisfy everyone.
Rune Factory 2 isn't wildly popular but has a large fan-base and is directed at fans of the Harvest Moon series who wanted something more. This game delivers a great story with decent graphics and music well suited to it. If you haven't played this before or are a fan of Harvest Moon, why not give it a try. After all, GBAtemp recommends it!
