GBAtemp Monthly Group Highlight: PCSX2 HD Texture Pack Group

pcsx2-mint-emulator-running.png

In a world where video game publishers often re-release older games with removed features and buggy ports, or delist beloved older titles, playing classic video games can be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, we have fan-made emulators that let us experience those older games that we still own, without having to hook up aging hardware to TVs that no longer accept standard definition connections. Of course, a lot of those older games do show their age with their visuals--for a lot of people, 480p 4:3 emulation just doesn't look as good on a 4K monitor as it did on your CRT back in the day. That's where texture packs come in. These community-made efforts go hand in hand with the community-made emulators, in order to provide as modern an experience as you could hope for. Improved visuals, clearer HUDs, and widescreen support are all benefits of using texture packs for your older games.

That's why we're choosing to highlight the incredibly popular PCSX2 HD Texture Pack Group. It's been one of our most popular groups ever since the implementation of the feature, serving as the home for over 1,000 individual threads of GBAtemp user-made texture packs. Active users such as @Bl4ckH4nd , @Panda_Venom , @CCKrizalid and so many more can be found in the group. If there's ever been a PlayStation 2 game you've wanted to revisit, there's a good chance someone's made an HD remaster of it! And if not, there's plenty of members offering help as well.

We'll be featuring another group next month! Whichever one gets chosen will have their creator receive a 200XP bonus! :toot:

What an extremely specific group. But yet very popular.
I'll start a group about night photographs of grasshoppers, see if it sticks

If I may, I'd like to submit the first entry.

Anyway, nice to have some folks polishing (and sometimes upgrading) the graphics of older games with texture packs.

i like these groups but gbatemp has a horrible search feature and alot of these groups dont have catalog style posts so the files end up taking too much time to find.

if gbatemp cleaned up and had a good catalog process this group would be awesome. instead tons of good files end up stuck behind a crappy catalog system. i love gbatemp but wish they would clean up the mess so things could actually be found.

I honestly don't understand why this has to be a group and not part of the proper forums.
I've seen some cases of people scamming in this group by selling textures that were AI upscaled. Nothing else said really.

A group, however, does help to separate this from the other parts of the forum so it doesn't clutter.

this, and it also allows each group to have its own mods which moderate the place as they see fit, based on their own rules

I agree that the search feature is not ideal, it's something we should probably work on.

Might have to try that Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 3 texture pack to hold me over until Sparking Zero comes out. Game is a month away but the itch is real. It's been 84 years...

please pretty please work on that search feature. if there were ways to tag items so they could be found in search easier within a group that would be awesome. it sucks searching cheats and putting in a title name and finding 20-30posts where people mention the game and having to look through so many text posts that are people trying to figure out the same thing im searching. so we are searching questions not answers most the time. finding the answer takes too long currently.

making some changes to make this easier imo would make this site alot more powerful and alot of the cool stuff that is on this site would actually be accessible to the average person.

This group was actually a lot of the reason I started becoming active on GBATemp! Unlike Dolphin where most of the HD packs are posted central on their website, it isn't as easy to find PS2 packs. Groups aren't perfect on here, but HD packs for the earlier 3D consoles are very great and I've been glad to have the pleasure of watching the group grow over time.

The only person who has ever done that is 1vierock, who was promptly dealt with. BTW if anyone wants that ratbags stolen upscales pm me and ill send you a link to the archive.org site that has them there for free to download. I dump games regularly that havent been done yet for the community to enjoy so seeing people like him try and scam others makes me sick.

I made a website for conveniently cataloging all the PCSX2 Packs in my signature. If you want a complete list including unfinished ones, you can check Sad_Origami's list here

We even made a group for every console upscale here :arrow:https://gbatemp.net/forums/retro-texture-packs.736/
