figured I might try it. wrote something but until I get home to a computer set up with a compiler I can't test or debug. If this works with only minor debugging the problem wasn't too hard to code but you are right this will use ridiculous resources

I mean I still have to actually perform the moves and I did write the program that is solving it but if I get it working and beat the game when I submit my screenshot to costello I'll ask him directly about whether it is cheating

I was discussing something related to that with him earlier as I thought there might be issues with this contest:

sounds like a lot of trouble for little to nothing [deleted this part]
I doubt someone would do this for 100 consecutive levels, the only way out of this is FUN imo.
and if a kid is ready to spend this much time just to get an R4i then so be it... but I feel sorry for whoever does that [deleted this part], I really do.

Pity the person who invests a lot of resources to win a R4i(There only ~$12-13) instead of having fun, I suppose is the moral.

If on the other hand you coding something like this is your idea of fun and you win one, then I'd suggest raffling it off back to gbatemp members. The person I was going to give my R4i to from the last contest doesn't need it anymore so most likely I'll be doing the same and feel free to join me if I do.

I could try to beat it but I need to burn my mind in more important thing like playing demos on 3ds.

Played it again and with a lot of patience. It's tiring and it has exhausted me, will take a coffee break. Some levels are so easy while others are way too tricky.

well the programming is fun for me I'm a senior in Computer Science and my first thought when I saw this game was I bet I could write a program to solve this

In the tutorial contest there was the option to reject the it and have it offered next in line (runnerup).
Afaik that system is still in place. Imho you should do that instead. Its fairer and saves the postage.

Dear Costello.

I'm having a little problem here.
I've started playing yesterday, continuing today, and I got to a pretty high level. But then I noticed that I wasn't logged on! :<
So I was wondering if it would be okay to get to level 100 (or 101?), take a picture and sumbit the score as a guest and still have a chance to win the prize?

Thank you,

^Tried that just now, but didn't notice I was online with that PC too lol. I'll try it again (while offline). Thanks for the advice.

EDIT:
OK, I just tried that, and when I do sumbit score, it directs me to a blank page with the following text:
"Could not retrieve score. Do not open multiple game sessions simultaneously."
Which is odd, as I was using a different pc, and opened the game only once.
What do I do now? :/

Hmm? I see that your score of 2 got submitted successfully. Is it not working?

Edit: Ah, I get it now. I am sorry, I am not sure how to help with this. Best wait for an official response. :/

No problem, thanks for trying though :]
I'm almost at lvl 100, too. I don't think I'll try again if it won't get accepted :[ too much effort (and I probably won't make it in time anyway).

EDIT:
OK, I found a way.
If you log on from a different tab, then close it and click sumbit on the 1st, it posts the score.
I just hope it's OK to take a picture that has "guest" in the top right instead of my username.

EDIT 2:
'aight, finished the game finally, and managed to post the score :>

Varia, Hacked Much?

Scroll Down, It says you got to level 100 in 9 minutes, whereas the other guy is at 10 hours.

While I'm not in a position to know for sure, I think those times are related to the amount of time your logged in(or maybe refreshing certain webpages?). If true logging into another tab as he stated above could be the explanation.

Its the amount of time the game is open.

The game length time is a really messed up thing tbh, I started Bug at around 12:30pm 2 days ago and reached level 36 by 4:00pm sharp, yet the game length of mine shows as around 36 mins (It's in the 30s as far as I can recall). I THINK that the game length time also doesn't budge if your explorer is minimized because you see while playing the game I was also chatting to my fiancee so there was a constant window switching going on....as to how Varia reached lv101 in 9mins....I would rather ignore that completely than accussing him without any evidence.

Mmkay, I suppose there isn't any evidence, it is a tad suspiscious though.

Tbh it's a dead giveaway but I'd let the admins see what was cooked up there lol.

Let's see, it took Varia 553 seconds to finish 100 levels. So for 1 level he would've taken 553/100 -> 5.33 seconds per level.
But again we still don't know how the game length is even calculated....

Same Way As Squares 2 for example and everything else, Leaving the window open still affects time, I played for 15 minutes if I had left the game open for another 5 minutes It would have shown 20 Minutes.

I see...well I'm not an advanced arcade player so I guess the window being open does add to the time....still that 5.33 per level is making me wonder, I mean you can't possibly finish a level in 5 seconds, especially level 26! Damn that one.
