My 8 year old GBA SP (AGS-001) has finally shown some wear and tear. The LCD is showing blotches and cracks, which I suppose the LCD panel has reached the final stage of its lifespan.

Anyone knows where to get the replacement LCD screen for the old GBA model (AGS-001)?

Tried to Google it and could only find replacement LCDs that supposedly work for both my old GBA SP (AGS-001) and the brighter GBA SP (AGS-101). I'm rather skeptical about the compatibility since I've read that the screens from AGS-001 and AGS-101 are not interchangeable, and that some LCDs DO NOT include the front lit display.

Any suggestions where to get a fully working replacement LCD that includes the front lit display?

BTW, I'm also interested to know if it's possible to replace the front lit LCD to a back lit LCD (in other words upgrade AGS-001 to AGS-101). Would love to know about the compatibility as well (such as whether the toggle brightness button still works etc).

Thanks in advance :D

I would also appreciate this info.... or even better, how to fit a AGS-101 screen (properly backlit version) on the AGS-001 gameboy.

Thanks to anyone who can provide schematics, hi-res pictures of motherboard, etc etc.....

How does the light switch work with this mod? with minimum brightness and maximum or back light on and off like the regular unmodded 001?

btw coul you send a pic of the screen that came with it, there is 2 back light screen versions just out of curiosity i would like to know what screen came with your gba sp (the distinction is on the ribbon cable http://img01.taobaocdn.com/imgextra/i1/61106014/T2yOd0XjlcXXXXXXXX_!!61106014.jpg )

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
