Hacking Gateway Save question

I created a emuNAND using Gateway and I only play games I install using a .cia file, I now want to switch from Gateway to luna3ds but I heard that i have to decrypt my saves in order to do that. Yet every guide that I look up says something about "pressing select to open the gateway rom menu" But I don't use roms.

The reason I ask is because I'm planning on switching from gateway to luna3ds so i'm not sure if my saves will still work.

AFAIK the decrypted saves are created if you are using the red gateway with roms not with cia. And you can switch without problems. I switch sometimes 4 or more times a day between gateway and Luma.

Why? Well I use the gateway as extended SD card or for cheating. I have my favorite/new games installed and others (already played or only for playing it rarely) on the gateway.
