Gateway all the way! Sky3DS is only for the unfortunate ones who updated past 9.2!

There is literally nothing Sky3DS cant do that GW cant do better! I see youre on 9.2 so you can easily downgrade to 4.x and use the profile exploit which is super easy to set up and to use!

You can use the gateway exploit to downgrade, and backup your nand without a gateway card, so I would buy a sky3DS and put cubic ninja on it to use homebrew. You can also use regionthree to play games from other reigons with sky3ds.

ITT: gateway sucks coz its limited to 9.2, sky 3ds works on 9.4 and plays homebrew* and region free** so gateway has nothing sky3ds cant do

*if you limit yourself to 9.2 or lower(making 9.4 compatibility useless)
**almost certainly only if you limit yourself to 9.4 or lower (making the whole "works on all updates" redundant), and requires using a web exploit every time you want to play a game

each has their appeals, but really the only unique selling point for sky3ds is that it works on 9.3-9.4.....for anything lower gateway is cheaper and has more features

main reason i like gateway is that i can do pretty much whatever i like, mod games, mod saves, and there is much more room for modding and hacking....granted not all people look for that kind of stuff, but there is a lot of people who want game hacks and cheats and stuff like that, which sky3ds cannot do and will likely never be able to do.....to choose sky3ds is to sacrifice something that doesn't need to be sacrificed, if your sure you will never want to use any game mods or hacks or if your so sure there will never be any homebrew ever that would interest you...sure thing update to 9.4 s you can still play games that require patches from the eshop online, but none of that is necessary with gateway

You can do homebrew with sky3ds and ninjha cubic ninja backup and free region with the new exploit.

Gateway is cheaper though. On top of that you get emunand. That's a big plus. Sky I see for around 70-100$. GW I have seen 60$-80$. Usually not more.

What homebrew would make someone choose GW over Sky? Sky is obviously simpler when it comes to loading roms, so what homebrew would a user sacrifice convenience for?

Loading roms is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY easier on Gateway. Press select then you have all your roms there. To add more just drag and drop on the microsd card. Sky I feel isn't as simple, while gateway is and also convenient. I'd go with gateway also due to the fact you can downgrade. The main homebrew someone would sacrifice user convenience for is DevMenu (ie. BigBlueMenu) for install .cia files and so on. GW is not inconvenient to me. I feel a lot of people may be angry about the online exploit, but the online exploit was probably so we could downgrade and use a fully offline exploit. On top of that, there is still ways to do the online exploit offline. Gateway also overall is better in terms of hardware upgrade ability. I have a feeling sky3ds will come out with new cards over time if it is patched, just like they had a red version and a blue version. Gateway has use the same card all this time. No one has had to buy a new card for the 9.2 update either. Though they may be slow, they came through and I have to give them that. Sky also has a 30 game limit that has yet to be fixed on the bluecard. I think gateway is less sketchier than Sky. My 2 cents though. Sorry I am late, hope I am not necro posting :yaynds:

I chose sky3ds because my 3DS was 9.4 so I didn't really have a choice. Having said that I like sky3ds, it's really simple to use and from what I understand simpler than Gateway. My impression is that Gateway has more features and capabilities and can run stuff that sky3ds cannot (such as .cia files), but it's also a fair bit more complicated and not as user friendly. sky3ds has been perfect for me for just running .3ds roms. It's ridiculously simple to use too, just use a computer program to write the roms to your microsd card, insert the microsd into sky3ds, then play the roms on your 3ds. You can also play games online, run homebrew and emulators through ninjhax, and use regionthree to bypass region lock as well as games that require mandatory firmware updates I'm pretty sure (for the 'old' 3ds, not sure if all these work on the 'new' 3ds).

If I had a 9.2 or under 3DS I'd probably go with Gateway and try to learn all you can do with it, but I'm personally content with sky3ds.

Im sorry, but using the issue of loading roms is just stupid and straight lazy.

Once the exploit is launched and emunand set up, sure. But having to relaunch the exploit every time you power down is not user friendly. Having to dump and patch and whatever to get emunand set up is not user friendly. A plug and play option is much easier to use. GW isn't terribly difficult, just inconvenient. One can hardly say that the exploit and emunand is easier to set up than writing a few roms to and sd card and plugging it in.

It's all user friendly. Very user friendly in my opinion. You put a file on your sdcard and a few files on an msd. Yes you have to relaunch the exploit but at the same time, going to settings, profile, ds profile isn't hard. On top of that, if you want to use old homebrew for 4.5 it's possible. Frankily, it's a choice, in which company you trust most. Do you trust gateway or do you trust sky3ds. I trust gateway. They've proved their worth to me. Sky3ds is just sketchy to me. A red version with a limit of 10 games? Then apparently gateway makes an announcement to support 9.2 and they release a blue version (That whats I was told, correct me if I am wrong). On top of that, you could bypass the 10 game on the red card proving that it was a tactic to make money. I feel like gateway will be more reliable in the long run. Sky3ds seems like an expensive r4 where you will have to buy a new card every time it is patched. I also remember reading that the hardware on it was non upgradeable, but again correct me if I am wrong.

To the Original Poster, Pick what you want. DO A LOT OF RESEARCH!! Watch videos and read articles. Make sure you know what your getting and how to use it. From there, make your decision.
