update: I'm updating to v 8.1 using SSB using the 'up' method - i'll update if I successfully downgrade my nand to 4.2 then. :)

i also have Zelda 3DS XL , but didn't want to miss with it
to where it downgrade it ? 6.3 or 4.2 ?

I have an EUR console, so it's gone down to 4.5. I was a little bit worried about downgrading it to be honest, but after testing it on an older 3DS I have and seeing all of the success on here I decided to just go for it!

i have the blue card , but what should i do with it ?

copy the firmware files for the bc to the bc, then run the firmware .
the firmware ?
you mean the nand file that i just backed up ?
and what is this firmware ?
i am searching , but i can't find a guide
i think it was very old

edit : ok , found the installer
installed it then what ?

well I modded my system quickly (still had the sd adaptor made from last time) and it would not blue screen. I tried and tried but nothing. eventually I decided to plug it in the computer anyway and it recognized it. I re-wrote my 4.5 nand and all is well. I decided to try fantasy life this time - same method - same results - black screen. I then did the same write procedure to restore my nand. looks like i'll try and rent a game next.

does anyone know why this doesn't work?:

gateway 3ds 3.0.1
hold up when booting gateway mode
no emunand/fresh sd card in system
load up a say 8.1 game like ssb or fantasy life
agree to update
update completes - restart system required

black screens occur from then on

Downgraded both of my EUR consoles, regular and XL 3DS's.
The only problem is that it downgrades to 4.5, not to 4.2 like on US consoles, which makes me sad since I only own Acekard 2i.

The up method only works up to around 6.0 games, if you use 7.0 or higher your sysnand will be corrupted. You need to use a real SSB game card to update to 8.1

I just downgraded my Zelda ALBW Limited edition 3DS XL from 9.2 to 4.5.0-8E, I had an update nag, I left the console on standby (with the lid closed) for about 30 seconds, now the nag is gone.
A few noticeable differences:

On 9.2 the classic mode uses the right key for saves, on 4.5 it doesn't.
Not all NAND titles get downgraded (not that it truly matters though), not to mention banners show on 4.5 even for the newest game titles.

oh I see. I'm trying Mario and luigi - 5.1 - it failed.
it said an error has occurs - save currency data and stuff and restart.

then it black screened.

I may be using my Europe dumps! i'll try with a usa dump :P

Thanks for more informations.
I updated first post (savedata faq) if what I understood is correct.

I wondered if the titles are using their original version number or if they are tricking the titles to update to an older file using higher TitleVersion?
(sorry, I might not use the proper terms. I hope it's understandable)
