If the NANDs are linked then they will both change.

here is the simplest method -
Format emuNAND.
Boot into emuNAND
Go to system settings -> format (remove SD Card before format starts)
(or do this on sysNAND, I prefer my emuNAND is my main and my sysNAND is formatted)

Then if you make changes it should be separated, except for parental controls in my experience.

spankachu you are correct in the method, you should be unlinked.

Didn't formatting ask you to update the console? What if the update is already downloaded on the NAND? You would update to 9.5 on your sys, right? Isn't it less risky to format the EMU instead?

Formatting sysnand or emunand does not update the version. It requests to connect to the Internet to verify your NNID is eligible for a system format. Believe me I have done this with sysnand a half dozen times. I am really bad about putting the 3ds in sleep mode when it is in sysnand and it downloads the update. A simple system format fixes the update nag.

Simmer down now. I think you misunderstood him. Gateway has locked down classic mode since 7.x was introduced is what I beleive he meant.

That point should be clarified: On 8.1.0J, you cannot use the multi-rom menu on sysNAND GW mode, and on 8.1.0J emunand mode (in other words, you have to update the emuNAND to 9.5.0-23 to have the multi-rom menu working). As far as I know, every other New 3DS firmware works fine with it.

Unfortunately, you can't yet. I'm stuck in the same boat. We need an update from Gateway before we can use it. We can still play games and CIAs in an updated emuNAND mode, just not install CIAs to sysNAND.

I've encountered lots of bugs.​

mainly ROM menu does not show up. this is after upgrading emunand.​

and gateway mode menu doesnt load. usually if i wait 5 secs it loads fine.​

This has always puzzled me. Why do people want to install anything to sysnand if you have emunand?

On my N3DS, I unlinked my sysNand and enuNand, but I still have an issue. Every time I go back into gateway mode on enuNand, all my cia's are presents again and I need to unwrap them.

I unlinked by the following:

- Formatted enuNand from the gateway menu
- Updated to 9.5 on emuNand
- Turned off console
- Removed micro SD card
- Formatted sysNand
- Turned off console and re-inserted micro SD card

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

You did the correct process, try the whole thing again from scratch.
Wipe the SD card, or restore your original stock sd card image, if you (hopefully) made one...
Repeat your process again, after formatting sysnand make sure to go through the initial set up and get to home screen.
Reinsert mSD, boot emunand, install all your cia files again.

2) Updating the system firmware via CIAs (for example, I'd rather be on 9.2.0-20J than 8.1.0-0J), but this is very risky without a NAND mod.

So 9.2.0 20J is the recommended firmware for JP New 3DS'es running the OOT exploit?

Thank god for the MH4G V1.2 update back in October... Was the only reason i updated my New 3DS, before i even knew GW was doing work on it...

It might be possible to use emunand -> sysnand injection method like this to achieve one or both of those things.

How was updating while sleeping accomplished? In the case where GW3D doesn't show up in settings.
