...I just realized my Micro SD is a SDXC.

...Will that still work with gateway? Or is it only SD/SDHC? >_<

Can anyone confirm N3DS in US shipping at 9.4 firmware? If so, then I will aim to spring extra bucks for Sky3DS or QQ3DS (first time reading about it today). I think I'll go for the latter because of DS compatibility.

Highly unlikely. These units would have been manufactured months ago. They will probably ship with 9.0 firmware out of the box and Nintendo will rely on most people updating to 9.4 for a System Transfer or to use their download codes for Majora's Mask/Monster Hunter 4 in the eShop which will require an update to 9.4.

That's why you're better off with an EmuNAND solution of some sort rather than a Sky3DS flashcart if you can.

If they're anything like how I got mine, my New 3DS' (yes, I bought two) both came with 9.0 out of the box. Unfortunately, you're not wrong about 9.4 if people want to get MM/MH4 from eShop... :/

This has probably been asked before.

Now that we have a downgrader, does that change anything on the prospect of being able to have a real, permanent custom firmware at some point in the near future?

is there a list of card 1 and card 2 games? SO I know what retail carts I have I can continue to play after using gateway
There is a partial list in the gba wiki under 3ds flashcart compatibility. The problem is the premis of your question is false. Card 1 and card 2 do not determine compatibility, the encryption the game uses and has been used on does as well as the save file size. If you are on 8-9.2 there is no compatibility problem. If you downgrade to 4.x your retail carts will play but the most saves will be seen as corrupted and you will need to start over. There is a complicated way to deal with Pokemon search for thread.

So um, I thought I was on 9.1 or 9.2, but starting to backup all of my games using the exploit in preparation of my Gateway getting here today... and realized I am on 8.1. Is there any reason I should attempt to update sysNAND to 9.2? Any benefit at all?
None, becuase you cannot upgrade a 8.1 to 9.2 as there are no 9.2 updates on carts and Nintendo will update you to 9.4. Stay where you are or downgrade if you wish.

hi, i recently downgraded my boys ads xl an updated emunand, sometimes when i turn it on it asks me would i like to update it now, any idea how to stop this at all?

regards

You will need to format sysnand. search for threads that suggest strategies to prevent updates. Turn off wifi, never sleep in sysnand, block update servers on your router, power it down.

You are fine. My psychic powers determin you have a 64GB or larger mSD card and are a rom whore like me. :)

(That's what XC means)

I've got a 3DS XL on 8.1.0-11 should I get a Gateway?

Also what do the Blue/Red cartridges do?

You should. Just make sure you don't update your 3DS XL.

Anyhow, the Blue card, unless you're on firmware 4.1-4.5, is useless, so you can ignore it.

The red card is the key part of the gateway, as it is what allows you go into gateway mode and play 3DS backups.

You can also downgrade your console version, but bear in mind that certain saves will no longer be able to be used.

Okay I get that now what does the setup process actually do?

From what I'm getting it is installing a launcher using the DS mode and then using the SD card to launch into GW mode?

The method you mentioned is for firmwares 4.1-4.5.

The one the rest of us are doing is to put the launcher into the root of the 3DS's SD, then going to a website to activate the exploit, which from there we launch into GW mode.

Darn needed to format my sd card cause the emunand was gone.
Now the update on Nintendo seems to be very long or it is my internet.
Is like my third time now. I wanted also a few hours ago downloading smash bros update but that took also to long.

Gone? Who took it? How do you know it is gone? I hope you realize emunand is on a hidden partition windows cannot see. The only way to access it is with Emunand Tool.

Once you get it back or make a new one immediatly make a backup or two of it with Emunand Tool.

No I think I formatted cause Smash Bros had black screen then it was probably gone.
Well I needed to format it if I want to play the game I guess.

So yup still error after updating. Going then to reset my router if it isn't nintendo server.

Should be noted that you can downgrade to 4.x in order to use the offline launcher/exploit if so desired.

Hi, could someone help me to restore back my SD card ?
I have installed the Emunand but now I want to remove the Emunand partition from my SD card and set it back with it's real size of 2giga.

Good. A 2Gb SD is not a wise choice. Google SD Formatter v4 by the SD association it is the best program to use for a FAT32 format.

Solved resetting the router was the trick.
