ROM Hack Games Engine / Save Dongle - Abandoned?

I was just looking for a Mario Kart 7 retail card gamesave (cause i lost all my progress) to use it with my R4 Save Dongle.
The only site i could find having saves for this device is it's official site - http://69.4.227.177/SaveDongle/ArchiveList.aspx?Type=3DS&pageNo=3

Created an account to download, but all download links gave my a 404 (file not found). The Forum is also gone.

Has this site been completely abandoned? Does anone know where to find gamesaves for this dongle?

P.S.: Is it possible to upload a gamesave to the Mario kart 7 retail cart via Gateway-Menu?

Yes but only if the save is encrypted to match that specific cartridge. Basically only if the save was dumped with gateway from that same cartridge, or from a .3dz rom dump using the same header.

So... i guess that will not work for me, cause i've got no save from that cart. Can i backup the save of the cart now, modify it (for unlocking things) and re-upload it?

This depends. Very early games, like OoT3D, that use the initial save encryption method aren't encrypted per-cart.
Using GW menu or a SaveDongle to dump is basically the same thing.

I'm unsure if Mario Kart 7 is one of those games or not. I think it's using 2.x encryption, not the original vulnerable 1.x encryption, which would mean that saves from other carts would not work.

And that Bonny is in essence why it's abandoned, it only worked for a short time then once games with 2.x encryption came out it was mostly useless.

Anyway is starting over such a big deal? Unlocking the cups and characters won't take that long and the car parts will unlock themselves as you play anyway

Yeah, i know the Dongle is useless with it's official software. But didn't GBATemp-member ?McHiggins? (i guess that was his name) wrote a software that made it compatible with later games?

Anyway, if only the download-database still would work, i could grab a save and use it

Sure... but the device worked with Mario Kart 7. Dosen't that mean it's still 1.x encryption? If it is, is there anything i can do?
