I'm rather unsure what cIOS and such to install for vWii, I believe it's slightly different than the Wii ones. If you could point me the right way that would be fantastic

I think the only cIOS that CAN be installed on vWii are d2x v10 and v10-alt (v10 is better with emuNAND and v10-alt is better with USB microphones and instruments .. so take your pick. Either one should do fine with this sort of thing.) and they only work with an IOS base of 56, 57 and 58 IIRC. I thing usually people install IOS base 56 as 249, 57 as 250 and 58 as 251. You can usually tell the USB loader which IOS to use in the settings if you want to, later on so exactly which order shouldn't matter much.

Now that I think of it, the reason why AHBPROT doesn't work might be because since the IOS in vWii are a little different, the patches to make the IOS give it access to the drive are in different places in the IOS so it's not that AHBPROT is broken but just that this version of Devolution hasn't been programmed to take advantage of it in the Wii U way yet. Many other apps like bluedump, MMM as well as the cIOS installers themselves has to have their programming adjusted, too, in order to be able to use AHBPROT access correctly on vWii.

hi guys and first off sorry for the noob question, but have not followed the scene for a few months.just been reading a few reports that it is now possible to play gamecube backups on your wiiu in vwii mode and just thought i would ask and if so is their a guide or anything on how to do it.thought i would come here and find out from this site instead of trusting any other sites word.thanks and please dont flame lol.

It's only very recently (the support is only added since friday). I haven't tested it myself (at this point, I don't want to hack my wiiu as it'll void the warranty) and don't know if it works as advertised, but it should be something like this (note: make sure to check the readme for details: I won't claim responsability if this works or not. Or blows up your wiiu for that matter).

Anyway...a very rudimentary guide (hopefully without too many errors):

REQUIREMENTS:
-a wii with gamecube support (hacked)
-a FAT32 formatted SD card or USB drive
-original discs
-at the very least one wiimote (more important than it may sound)
-wiiu (also hacked)
-wii classic controller, wiiu pro pad or a PS3 controller (perhaps it works with the default gamepad or even a wii and nunchuck, but I don't see it in the readme)

1. rip the original gamecube disks to your USB or SD card on your hacked wii using a proggie like cleanrip
2. get the latest version of devolution from this post (version 200 or above. Don't worry that the OP claims it's 159...the link is updated; the post isn't).
3. run devolution. Make sure the wiimote is active. Insert the original disk and allow it to verify.
IMPORTANT: you need a clean MIOS for this one. IIRC, devolution refuses to work if you've installed a cMIOS (eg for DIOS MIOS)
EDIT: I was wrong on this one (sorry). I want to say something like "but it'll need IOS58 instead"...but I better check some sources before stating it as if I'm sure of it.
4. it's probably best to at least start the game on devolution at this point, if for nothing else to see if it actually works (if you can't get devolution to work on a hacked wii, there's no way it will do anything on a wiiu).
5. get over to your hacked wiiu. Make sure the same version of devolution is installed there. I'm not sure, but I think you'll also need the exact same storage medium (the SD card or USB drive from the hacked wii) to be used on this wiiu. Also: make sure you pair this previously used wiimote to this wiiu
6. run devolution on this wiiu and hope it'll work.

As you can see, it's certainly not a noob question at all (though I suspect quite some people will once again need a reminder of what 'backup' actually means ;) ).

@others: if there are important things missing, please say so. I've got everything to get my gamecube games working on my family wii (and I'll be taking notes and writing a tutorial for it based on that), but it would be nice to hear if there are important notes for the wiiu. :)

thanks for quick reply.backed up my original super mario sunshine using clean rip 1.05 (fat32 format 8gb usb drive).move the three files produced into a folder called games, then ran devolution.mounted usb drive using button 2 on wii remote.selected iso screen went blank disc slot on wii flashed a few times then led on wii remote was flashing on and off.inserted original super mario sunshine disc slot flashed about 9 times then back to homebrew channel.any ideas as to were i am going wrong?

update:tried everything and a few originals and still no joy, must of installed cmios at some time or maybe its the modchip i have.wiinja one of the first chips to come out for the wii,the upgradable one.installed way before soft mods came out.

got devolution to work on my wii now and backups working ok without original disc in after being verifed.remember that you could disable the wiinja deluxe chip by holding down power and reset button together, now to try it on the vwii.

I have DIOS MIOS and Devolution works fine for me. (I stupidly installed DM on a family Wii but it didn't cause any problems.) I think you might be thinking about it needed a clean IOS58 and that a modified 58 like what's in DarkCorp wouldn't work.

True. This was a mistakingly assumption on my behalf.

I'll edit the previous post.
